There was no damage or anything missing. The unit was complete and in fine working order when it left my house.

I have a hunch this guy could be trouble. Why would it take him nearly 3 months to notice something as obvious as that? He's trying to pull a fast one. He was happy when he collected and handed over the agreed amount.

Sorry, but I'm p####d off with anyone who thinks I am dodgy in any shape or form. I have many faults but unscrupulous I'm definitely not.

I misinterpreted your first post, sorry

so it was damaged all along, but you didn't realize?

Anyway, it was shown in the pictures and he did inspection and test it.

A bit of a grey area, but really, complaining after so much time sounds a bit dodgy to me.

I hope you can resolve this without too much pain. Good luck.

I wonder whether we can expect to see it back on Ebay very soon, with all these so called "faults" described accordingly?

Has he given you positive feedback also?

Not if the deal was done outside eBay

Take date stamped photos as you wrap the item, send recorded delivery and insured.

A LOT of people will try it on, try to get something for nothing.

Usually it's "caveat emptor" or "buyer beware" but on eBay it's all too often "caveat venditor" :-(

Quite possibly. It had occurred to me earlier.

When he came to pick it up he asked whether it was slow to respond. I replied "yes, possibly", and then went onto explain that most of the reviews stated the same thing, about the response from the remote wasn't as crisp or instantaneous as some other brands. Again, he was happy.

Clearly he's disappointed with the CDP, but why its taken him two months to flag this up makes it more suspect.

That's the first time I've ever sold anything on Ebay - and probably the last.

I wouldn't let this experience put you off too much. The buyer who is giving you grief sounds like a bit of an idiot, and only bringing up problems after 2 months is his fault not yours.

The vast majority of deals done on Ebay go through smoothly without issue, certainly speaking from personal experience of selling bits of hi-fi and other stuff over the years. I've got a 100% rating off the back of 325+ transactions and the only problems I can recall were very minor, courier related things.

Having said that I endeavour wherever possible to sell any hi-fi stuff on other forums (AVForums, PFM, AofS, and HiFiWigwam) before going down the Ebay/Gumtree route.

Not my experience with eBay.

I still don't get it.

Have you paid your eBay fees of the sale or was this done outside eBay??

Does he know where you live PP, or has your house telephone number? Doing deals outside eBay is at your own risk. But like Chebby my dad always gets them to sign a piece of paper saying they are happy with the deal upon collection.

PP decided to circumvent ebay and sell to a private vendor with a big discount for cash on collection (£450 instead of the listing price of £600). As has already been stated, the buyer probably doesn't have a leg to stand on.

Hopefully the purchaser doesn't get any 'traction' because the only record of what was spent is £600 (where it says "Sold for £600" on the ebay listing. With no other receipt in existance, he might claim the whole £600.

No feedback it seems ...

Always advisable for seller and buyer to sign a piece of paper that states what exactly has been bought, for how much, and on what date. Also note the relevant serial numbers, and keep a photo or two for your records.

So PP's statement of ... 'That's the first time I've ever sold anything on Ebay and probably the last' ... isn't entirely correct 🙂

It is really because all of his feedback is for purchases only.

Hi gel, just to let you know the buyer paid cash on collection so yes he does know where the seller lives.

Cheers.

Yes it is. I've never SOLD anything before on Ebay but purchased a few things over the years.

Yup, I paid Ebay £44 commission, but I did state in the auction that collection was optional. And the £450 agreed fee is recorded with Ebay.

Thanks for clarifying. You'll be fine. Don't let this put you off using the service in the feature.

You seemed to have done most things correctly. In any case, this is possibly a reminder to all of us that eBay is great for selling but that homework needs to be done before doing so.

Just an observation. When I've looked on the 'Bay' over the years I can't believe how bad some people write. Regardless of whether it's hi-fi, cars, records, DVDs... it seems to be littered with mistakes: Spelling, grammatical errors are frequent. Not saying for one moment I'm Mr. perfect but it's important, I believe...
