Trainspotting on 4k - a genuinely brilliant film, funny, poignant, harrowing.

Definitely worth the investment - it's not eye-popping as it's quite subdued in it's palette, but there's greater detail. For example when Renton's trying to wean himself off heroin towards the start, the carrier bags he brings in are thin enough that you can see the magazines are of a 'jazz' nature through them. I'd also not noticed that after they've mugged the American tourist and are leaving the pub, you can see that the barman is trying on the American's coat.

Yesterday to celebrate International Woman's Day, we watched Women's movies. The Prey followed by Jackie Brown.
My missus feels empowered. 😉

Ps. Ripley in Alien(s) would have been perfect choice also but I had it in 1080p only and I wanted to view it in glorious UHD.
Mind you Prey is the Predator version of Alien.
The message in the film, the biggest threat is when you consider your prey as harmless.

Love Jackie Brown - is the only one available the £35 one?

My favourite Tarrantino movie, followed by Pulp Fiction. Many would argue his finest was Reservoir Dogs and I wouldn't disagree but it lacks that Feel Good Factor and explosion of soul music in the background is dynamite!

Anyway, answer your question 🙂
It's £30 and a bit on eBay, cheapest I can find, ZAVVI, HMS, Amazon and et'al all selling for £35.

That was the one I ordered.

Pulp Fiction is my favourite, followed by Jackie Brown, then Reservoir Dogs. Never took to the Kill Bill films, and really not sure about OUATIH.

Arrived today!

Parenthood on blu ray - it definitely more than flirts with sentimentality, but some great scenes and performances, and I doubt anyone who's had children can't find some resonance - even if that's about others they know. Had wondered whether it might feel different having just lost my dad, but it didn't.
Firstly my deepest sympathy for the loss of your dad, may he rest in peace.
I lost my dad in 2010 and he's never been forgotten.
Sometimes when the family are together, at the table, my siblings and I would say the daft things my dad would say, it's a funny way of honouring his memory.

I really didn't like the cheesiness of this movie 🍿 but very fine actors and Steve Martin really shines in the movie though.

Finally got round to watching Dune 1 & 2 on BR. Visually stunning, great sound, brilliant sfx, acting top notch. Why then did I find myself waiting for it to end? I must admit, I think I preferred the original version, even though in a lot of ways it was inferior, not least the sfx and dramatic effect. I suppose it seemed more complete? Dune 2 seemed to leave lots of issues unresolved, unfinished.

Couldn't agree with you more. Been a huge Dune fan since reading Dune Trilogy back in the 80's, a book I found very difficult to put down. Villeneuve's offerings are as you've stated, wonderfully cinematic and visually stunning. However, from my recollections of the novel his interpretation falls way short of my expectations for this bang up to date re-boot, there far too many discrepancies and holes in his script, even complete characters missing.

For me the original is still the best, poor sfx in comparison of course, but the cast were far superior to the re-boot version. The original was far more complete and true to the novel, with narration filling in the gaps of knowledge where Villeneuve's versions just seemed to approach it as Star Wars saga with poor adaptation from the novel, he missed out far too much history.

I guess it's a bit like Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049, the new one was indeed fantastic but the original was in a different league, it was, and still is an iconic film.

Villeneuve is working on Dune Messiah as the next release and it is rumoured he is departing even further from the novels, which is kind of sad really as with such a wealth of material at his disposal I can't see the need to depart from the story as it was intended to be told, artistic licence I guess, or a money making exercise.

Second to the original film I've found the sci-fi channel mini series to be one of the most accurate portrayals of the novels. It doesn't have the big budget look of the films but is damned good. If you haven't seen it check it out, it has become my favourite Dune adaptation.
