Not sure what made me decide to stream Carry On Screaming last night - good for a Carry-on, but not exactly a classic piece of cinema per se. It was the first thing I can recall seeing as a kid that scared me though.

The Exorcist on 4k - surprisingly good transfer for such an old film.

Lion on blu ray - Dev Patel as the adult version of an Indian child who gets irretrievably lost as a five year-old, and is eventually adopted by a Tasmanian couple. The story then covers his search for his real family, and pretty closely follows the true story upon which it is based. Great performances from Patel, and from Nicole Kidman as his adoptive mother.

Saving mine for an October horror fest. Also got Blood And Black Lace in 4K too, which is supposed to look stunning.

Oh I remember this movie, yes and it was SOME Journey for the lad, Amazing !

Monty Python and the Holy Grail on blu ray - not quite up there with Brian, but love it nonetheless. Quite a bit will look grainy when it eventually gets a 4k release, but some bits are going to look great.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Not seen it for 20+ years - an interval I expect to surpass before seeing it again...

And Now for Something Completely Different on blu ray - German import as we're denied the HD offering over here. A great pick of the series' high points, given the limited time available.

Sinister on blu ray - the story of a failing true crime writer who moves into the house of the victims of the murder he intends to write about. Bad things happen. Not that original, but works pretty well, I think.

The Breakfast Club on blu ray - a pity that we now know that Ringwald had some bad experiences during filming, but some great performances - and some genuinely moving scenes.

V for Vendetta on 4k - strays a long way from Alan Moore's source, and some of Natalie Portman's English accent falls pretty flat, but a great story - and the pivotal scenes stand close comparison with the source.

I can’t ever watch that without thinking that V is played by Rowan Atkinson as Blackadder II.

Shirley Valentine on DVD. I can see why people wouldn't like it, but we do - barring Tom Conti's risible accent.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels on blu ray. Not exactly the deepest, but thoroughly enjoyable in an old-fashioned way. A strong and in parts surprisingly nuanced performance from Michael Caine.

I picked it up last year on Bluray as I couldn’t find it on any of the 5 streaming platforms I subscribe to - I never seem to be able to find any film I suddenly want to watch on streaming. Not particularly convenient…

And it’s way better than the recent remake, The Hustle, with Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson.

It’s ok, just nothing particularly interesting. Maybe worth watching if you like Wilson‘s humour or just like looking at Hathaway.

Watched Suspiria in 4K (UHD disc) the other night - not my favourite Dario Argento film, but damn it looks absolutely gorgeous. As does Mario Bava’s Blood & Black Lace.

Donnie Darko on 4k - a film that feels subtly different and shows new things at almost every viewing. Another nailed-on top tenner.
