Lol indeed - they are hard to accomodate but totally worth it. Id love to hear how they sound on the 802Ds. Im unfortunately only running the GS60s waiting to get some big speakers as my next upgrade. In the future I would recommend chaning the CD player to get even more out of your sound. Enjoyyyy!! : )

Nice system! How does the 5090 image fair against the projector's one? Which Blu-ray player are you considering?

After receiving my Pioneer - you realise why EVERYONE i ever spoke to before I bought the TV kept talking about that funny word "Reference TV" - Its simply flawless in most ways.

One Problem I did notice and it may not just be me - in todays world we live in, I became so amazed by the HD revolution and 1080p TV/projectors that I almost forgot - that the resolution of the TV/projector cannot change - the pixel information is the same on both. So when I first got the TV I was slightly disappointed. Mainly due to the fact I had gone from a 70" screen to the Pioneer at 50". Maybe I was expecting 1900P resolution or something silly. However once I realised that I had built up this massive expectation due to my extensive research and that it just was never going to be a reality - I then took a fresh look at the TV.

This is where everyday just seems to get better. The TV is the best ive ever seen - watching many movies/freeview/games consoles has made me aware of this. You really appreciate the TVs ability to deliver deep blacks - it just sets the foundation for the whole picture. And the picture is second to none. Its sharp enough for me to be happy with. colour accuracy is amazing, contrast is unbelievable, picture adjustments is extensive & control of the TV is excellent.

But again its the deep blacks that set this TV in the top league - James Bonds suits reveal more detail - you see his stains, creases etc. Something you normally dont notice. Peoples hair looks more realistic due to the more detail - even on freeview. Freeview performance is amazing considering the quality of the feed. HD movies however - well in a different league. One of my favourite films of all time - The Dark Knight. Never looked that amazing - I wont even start mentioning this film - but EVERYTHING was a massive step up in this film due to its many dark scenes. Dont think that the bright scenes arent as good either - they just deliver more subtle ques that arent an instant WOW factor - but then when the lack of them on other TVs - even my fathers Pioneer (7th Generation model) - you realise why the picture is second to none

Now the Infocus IN80 - honestly WOW - what a projector for the price you pay. About 15% off the Pioneer in terms of all our picture ability. But for HD football and games consoles - simply stunning on a big screen. Sharpness is very good and the colour whilst not as accurate as the Pioneer are still good for a projector. Brightness isnt an issue unless you have no curtains. HD movies, whilst not as good as the Pioneer by some way are still a joy to watch - no major problems. Motion is smooth and detail excellent for the price of the unit.

For me a TV is more practical - no waiting for the projector to turn on and off - no fan noise (however the Infocus is very quiet). Normal daytime TV can easily be watched. Honestly if I could afford it - I wouldve gone for the Pioneer LX-6090 -sat closer - and had the best of both worlds :)

Blu ray player shortlist - as a minimum it would be the Denon DVD 2500 or if not that one & depending on how well I can do at work - the reference Pioneer Blu Ray player LX-91 or something. We'll see. Had a demo of both units and the blu ray picture quality is a MASSIVE step up from the PS3 im currently using.

Wow if youve read up to this far you really must be interested about the comparisons - I am going to stop now you'll be pleased to know :)

Hey Vinny

Thanks for the in-depth reply! I was considering a projector as a future upgrade (with 100-120inch screen) but I wasnt sure if I sit too close and will lose too much quality. I sit 2.5m from the TV (5090) but would like a PJ (panasonic pt-ae3000 possibly) just for blu-rays (from the BDP-LX91, so dual hdmi's out). Will it all be too big and pixilated at that distance? Would the 5090 do better?

Thanks

James

Hey JTD, at 2.5M distance, the Pioneer should just about be adequate. By TV distance standards that is too close for a 50" screen however I sit the same distance away as I love big screens. The Panasonic would do an admirable job however the Pioneer would simply smash it due to its dark levels & slightly sharper image. I think the Panasonic would be unnecessary and you should use your money on upgrading other aspects on your setup. Speak to your local Hifi/Home Cinema specialist - they would also agree I think. Just make sure they are honest and dont try and sell you something you dont need :)
Just another point to note is that if the 50" is too small at that distance for you - then the best option is to get the 60" version - same quality and bigger screen :). If you need bigger than a 60" screen at 2.5m distance - I suggest we both seek help :) What Hifi should start clinics maybe.....
Hope this helps James

I do see your point, I do reckon the 50 inch is fine for day to day. I just reckoned a projector might give the front row in the cinema enveloping experience! I think i'll keep the 100inch screen and projector on the back burner. Well atleast until 4k resolution projectors are available! The 60" is just too pricey, even more than a projector! I think most upgrades will wait until hdmi 1.4 now for me! Also I'd say get a blu-ray player mate, the PS3 is good, but not great..........

Bring on the What hifi clinic lol. Thanks Vinny

Thats certainly my next upgrade. The recent Denon DVD-2500BT has been discontinued so just waiting to see the new wave of blu ray players that are being released.
Also the Pioneer Projector is meant to be an amazing piece of kit, with black levels almost identical to the TVs. You might wanna check that out too :)

Purchased the Denon DVD-2500BT - couldnt wait/resist any longer. No idea how high I can already make my 1.7M high rack - with the Denon it will be 1.9M high with well over 100KGs of weight on it - scary! Upload pictures in a couple of weeks when I have time to set things up
