After receiving my Pioneer - you realise why EVERYONE i ever spoke to before I bought the TV kept talking about that funny word "Reference TV" - Its simply flawless in most ways.
One Problem I did notice and it may not just be me - in todays world we live in, I became so amazed by the HD revolution and 1080p TV/projectors that I almost forgot - that the resolution of the TV/projector cannot change - the pixel information is the same on both. So when I first got the TV I was slightly disappointed. Mainly due to the fact I had gone from a 70" screen to the Pioneer at 50". Maybe I was expecting 1900P resolution or something silly. However once I realised that I had built up this massive expectation due to my extensive research and that it just was never going to be a reality - I then took a fresh look at the TV.
This is where everyday just seems to get better. The TV is the best ive ever seen - watching many movies/freeview/games consoles has made me aware of this. You really appreciate the TVs ability to deliver deep blacks - it just sets the foundation for the whole picture. And the picture is second to none. Its sharp enough for me to be happy with. colour accuracy is amazing, contrast is unbelievable, picture adjustments is extensive & control of the TV is excellent.
But again its the deep blacks that set this TV in the top league - James Bonds suits reveal more detail - you see his stains, creases etc. Something you normally dont notice. Peoples hair looks more realistic due to the more detail - even on freeview. Freeview performance is amazing considering the quality of the feed. HD movies however - well in a different league. One of my favourite films of all time - The Dark Knight. Never looked that amazing - I wont even start mentioning this film - but EVERYTHING was a massive step up in this film due to its many dark scenes. Dont think that the bright scenes arent as good either - they just deliver more subtle ques that arent an instant WOW factor - but then when the lack of them on other TVs - even my fathers Pioneer (7th Generation model) - you realise why the picture is second to none
Now the Infocus IN80 - honestly WOW - what a projector for the price you pay. About 15% off the Pioneer in terms of all our picture ability. But for HD football and games consoles - simply stunning on a big screen. Sharpness is very good and the colour whilst not as accurate as the Pioneer are still good for a projector. Brightness isnt an issue unless you have no curtains. HD movies, whilst not as good as the Pioneer by some way are still a joy to watch - no major problems. Motion is smooth and detail excellent for the price of the unit.
For me a TV is more practical - no waiting for the projector to turn on and off - no fan noise (however the Infocus is very quiet). Normal daytime TV can easily be watched. Honestly if I could afford it - I wouldve gone for the Pioneer LX-6090 -sat closer - and had the best of both worlds
Blu ray player shortlist - as a minimum it would be the Denon DVD 2500 or if not that one & depending on how well I can do at work - the reference Pioneer Blu Ray player LX-91 or something. We'll see. Had a demo of both units and the blu ray picture quality is a MASSIVE step up from the PS3 im currently using.
Wow if youve read up to this far you really must be interested about the comparisons - I am going to stop now you'll be pleased to know
