Hi abhi_jollyguy

If you want an improvement then i'll suggest you save yourself some money and consider standard speaker cables which have around five hundred strands of OFC
emotion-1.gif
These speaker cables should cost you very little money and they'll also withstand many component changes that you may wish to make in the future

Thanks for the reply but could u plz elaborate ur post a bit?

The cable I am using Supra classic 1.6 containing tin plated multi-stranded OFC copper of purity degree 5N, which means >99.999% pure copper and it has 15 AWG.

You could try some Van Damme cables, many highly rate them. Perhaps look at the 12AWG (4mm) or 10AWG (6mm) version here. At the price I don't think you can go wrong.

The blue grade has 189 strands.
The black tour grade has 84 strands.

Can anyone comment on the potential differences, merits, etc?

Cant say as ive ever tried them, but supra cables are supposed to be very well made cables, so you might be better hanging onto them

My personal recommendation is Van Damme UP LC-OFC as theres less grain than the standard OFC cables, and id put them up against any cable costing less than 15 quid a meter

Hi,

I have used supra 1.6 for rears, the chord silverscreen would be an upgrade in soundquality - more open and detailed. The supra 1.6 is really only good enough on a good system for rears; Supra 2.5 Rhonda and Supra Ply 3.4 is better for fronts. In fact recently in another mag the supra ply 3.4 nearly won the speaker cable group test.

Cheers

Steve.

I've asked my dealer from where I bought my complete stereo system incl. NAD, PSB Speakers and supra 1.6 and he said that supra 2.5 or supra ply 3.4 will not give u any kinda improvement, he suggest me to have a luk at DAC's to improve sound quality but he also said come to my showroom with ur source which is WD TV Live and test it by urself changing different cables but the problem is I live in other city and his showroom is in other city.

Guys Is it true that sound quality will improve after adding DAC in my setup? If yes so by how much will DAC improve the sound quality of my system?

Thanks for ur precious replies

Hi,

Looking at your system it is most lkely your source ( dvd player) that would be your weakest link. A dac would improve that, or a nice budget cd player would too. I still think you could improve your cables, the chord would be a good upgrade, but I say the source component would hold it back. You have nice bookshelf speakers and amp though. What interconnects or other cables are you using to the dvd etc.?

Cheers

Steve.

I play almost anything via WD TV Live, I don't use DVD-Player, interconnects are stereo RCA cable provided with WD TV Live to AMP and Supra classic 1.6 speaker cables from AMP to speakers. This is it.

Thanks for ur reply

Hi,

I havent used WD TV live, I am probably more of a traditional hifi person - 2 channel, and 7.1 system so probably not the best person to comment on that. I do have my marantz 7.1 amp connected to the tv though. Certainly you could improve on your interconnects to the amp like using the chord crimson plus. I have used various interconnects to the tv and it certaintly makes a difference.

I still think the chord speaker cable has added clarity over the supra you have. With a dac you would be able to add that through your dvd player whch would improve that generally.

Of course if possible try before you buy, as system matching (system synergy) is so important as one thing may work well on one system but not on another. I have made mistakes on buying before trying in the past. Chord would be probably work well with your amp and speakers.
emotion-1.gif

Hope that helps

Cheers

Thanks for the reply, Chord speaker cables are known for it forward and bright sound character which I don't like and I think that Supra cables are better than the chord. Yes this bookshelves and AMP are awesome, both matched and pair awesomely. The interconnects and cables im using from DVD to NAD is the cable provided with DVD-Player box. Yes it's very much true that system matching is the most important part in any sound system to produce sound character which is more and more likable by the user or listener.

Hi,

I wouldn't say chord are bright on a fairly neutral system.I have tested many cables on my system over many years including QED, Kimber, Nordost, IXOS and va den hul, Supra, Eichmann, Siltech etc and have found chord one of the warmest of the lot - have a read of the review of chord crimson plus on the what hifi website.

I have used Chord with a NAD c542cd player and NAD power amp and found it quite balanced tonally. However I must say I havent heard your speakers so it would depend on them too. NAD are usually on the warmer side of neutral, and the local hifi shop sells NAD with chord cables.

The supra 1.6 I found on my front B&W floorstanders lacked openess and detail the 2.5 and 3.4 of the supra I found better - sorry I'm repeating myself. Let your ears decide in the end for the best choice.

Cheers

Steve.

In that case, I would love to audition my set-up on chord, supra 2.5 and 3.4 and then will decide which cable to go for. As far as CD player is the thing to consider so I will buy it after sometime when I have very gud budget. Thank you Steve for helping me this much.

Thanks again

Mere dosta, a benefit of using the standard speaker cables (with around five hundred strands of OFC) is these cables will enable your NAD amplifier to grip your PSB speakers far more effectively leading to better overall performance. Fwiw i also use these standard speaker cables with the mighty Plinius Hiato amplifier and i've yet to feel these cables are holding the Hiato back. These standard speaker cables are not bright, flat, brash, forward or lean in character instead they are smooth with zest and grip. Realistically i feel these standard speaker cables are about as good as they get and they are also very little £. Pity i didn't realise this a lot sooner myself
emotion-6.gif

Btw, i'll also recommend you carry on using the standard interconnects supplied with your DVD player. There after if you wish to alter the character of your system then use the tone controls on your amplifier.

Anyway just my experience.

My advice would be to pop into your local dealer and see what they have to loan you so that you can try them out in your system in your home. Only this way can you find out for yourself which cables will suit either your system or your tastes, as many cables have different characterisics, which can be used to fine tune your system's presentation.

Hi,

Glad to help. I agree with FrankHarveyHiFI the best you can do is borrow cables and test them on your system. I made a mistake of buying vandenhul 102 III and QED interconnects before trying them out on my system first. On my system with these interconnects the mids were forward and harsh, the bass bloated and muddy.

Cheers

Steve.

That is why I created this thread coz I want to save myself by buying any interconnect so that I won't regret later on. You all know that when it comes to high-end audio stuff so these things are very important to consider coz interconnects can change the whole sound signature of ur system.

Hi rana_kirti

These standard cables generally tend to be unbranded and can also be bought from most electrical stores. Prices are generally not more then a few £/m.
