Hi All

Having finally replaced my aging av receiver with the Yamaha AX 763 i was wondering if anybody could advise best settings with Sony S300 player to get the best from True HD.

The player has been updated with the latest firmware and AFAIK this allows for True HD to be decoded but not bitstreamed so i am unsure if i am getting the best from the receiver and would be grateful for any advice/suggestions

Thanks

Is the player connected to the receiver over HDMI?

If the answer is yes, I would set the audio output over HDMI to LPCM (Linear PCM)

I use this setup with my Sony BDP-S350 and Onkyo 576 receiver, works great!

Hi

Yes the receiver is connected via HDMI forgot to mention that.

My S300 only lists PCM in the menu is that the same as LPCM?

Yep, that's the option you need.

Your receiver may or may not realise it's a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack it's playing (depending on how old/new the receiver is- sorry not familiar with the Yamaha myself!). But this doesn't matter: the soundtrack is decoded onboard the player and sent as a linear PCM signal.

I tested the Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby TrueHD soundtracks of The Dark Knight Blu-ray Disc, and have to say the difference was very clear. Bass was far more punchy with TrueHD, and Dolby Digital sounded compressed by comparison.
