Hello, I'm new to amps but am interested in this product. http://whathifi.com/Review/Sony-STR-DH800/UserReviews/ What would it mean if it can do neither video upconversion nor video scaling?I'm backing up my blu rays to .mkv files to play through my media player and am keen to watch and hear decent quality movies. Would this be an impediment to this?Many thanks.

No it shouldn't create any problems at all. Although what you are doing is of course in breach of copyright...
