I'm about to move into my first house and have always wanted a home cinema. I have bought the tv but am unsure abou the a/v receiver and speakers. The lounge is quite small (4.5m X 2.7m) so I was thinking of getting the KEF KHT3005SE and wall mounting them. As for the receiver I'm unsure between; Onkyo TX-SR606, Yamaha DSP-AX763, Yamaha DSP-AX863SE or the Sony STR-DA2400ES. I'm not really into music just films really. I've been to a few specialist av shops but I would like some more advice please.

Thank you

This is definitely a question for the WHF testing crew, I doubt any others on here have heard them all. A personal recommendation from me would be the Sony who are renowned for making fantastic quality receivers in this price range, I've owned a few. The Yamaha is supposed to be good though, hopefully someone with better knowledge on this subject will jump in.

Of the four, I'd go for the Sony because a) it's very good indeed and b) you stand a fighting chance of actually being able to buy one.

The Yamahas are very seriously back-ordered at the moment, apparently, and you may well struggle to find one. If you manage to track one down, the 863SE is definitely the one to get.

I've decide on the KEF 3005SE speakers but can't decide on the receiver. I've found theOnkyo 606 for £400 and the yamaha AX8633SE for £500. Is the 863SE worth the £100 extra?

In our opinion, yes - remember the Yamaha was originally £800, and we gave it an Award at its revamped list price of £600 (in other words, we thought it was £200 better than the Onkyo when we'd heard them both!)
