thanks for the links the an-k is indeed very nice. What do you think of the Aurum Cantus leisure 2's? can we get these in the uk?CnoEvil said:gbhsi1 said:max budget £1000
That would put the AN-K out of budget: http://www.audioflair.co.uk/products-page/loudspeakers/audio-note-ax-2-entry-level-bookshelf-nearfield-speaker/ or small Floorstander: http://www.audioflair.co.uk/products-page/loudspeakers/audio-note-az-2-entry-level-performer/ Just in case (AN-K)*: http://www.audioflair.co.uk/products-page/loudspeakers/audio-note-an-k-quality-compact-nearfield-speaker/ *My choice. >)

I've only just heard of them from trawling the Internet ...just a wildcard. Would a speaker of 90db be sensitive enough to make the most of the amp? or would I need to be looking at something more sensitive? the an-k is unfortunately way over my budget :-(CnoEvil said:gbhsi1 said:thanks for the links the an-k is indeed very nice. Not a clue as I've never heard of them.

I believe all Audio Note speakers are designed to be used for low powered amps, but the person to speak to is Martin Grenall (martin.grenall@audionote.com), who is very helpful and knows his stuff. I think they might be a safer bet.
90dB is a good sensitivity, but is not necessarily a good indicator. My Kef Refs have a 90 dB sensitivity, but an impedance that drops to 3.2 Ohms, which means your amp would turn itsef inside out to power them, and still not manage convincingly.
shafesk said:I was going to suggest Audio note too, although I haven't heard them but they are always paired with low powered tube amps. You can check out Planet Duevels, I felt they sounded sensational with a 12 watt leben amplifier, I believe you can get them for 749 pounds...I love the look of them.
hmmmm....interesting. the planet duevels are not bookshelf though but are the omni directional which would mean placement could be pretty much anywhere- am I correct in saying this? they look great though and a real conversational piece price is very attractive too. I will check the other brands you have mentioned. Thank you!shafesk said:I was going to suggest Audio note too, although I haven't heard them but they are always paired with low powered tube amps. Also check out Chario speakers, their entire range is tube friendly I believe. Heard them with the puny 4 watt Mini-watt amplifier and they went decently loud in a small room. Whether you like the sound quality is another matter.
which uk dealer sells these chario speakers? checked online but can't find any...? any ideas?shafesk said:I was going to suggest Audio note too, although I haven't heard them but they are always paired with low powered tube amps.
