Selling some stuff but........ ?

Hey

I am a bit worried on selling stuff on a Auction site and them only selling for pennies.

I have sold stuff before for 99p no reserve, but it does not reach the price I want, but if you start around the price you want it does not get many bidders, and reserving a price is so expensive.

What do you guys sugest?

I hope this is allowed, no links or anything, just need advice.

I always start at no reserve and just go with the flow. I think a lot depends on how well you describ your stuff and a couple of really good photos goes a long way too. It's worth spending some time mentioning evrything from age, any flaws and whether you have original packaging,instructions etc. This helps to convince buyers that you've really taken care of things.

Yeh wrote up the ads and have all original boxes and mint.

Just a bit worried a 140.00 product will got for 1.99

Maybe put some key words, maybe that will get more attention

Set a reserve if you're worried, but this usually puts people off, so it's positive and negative.

I wouldn't worry as sometimes bidders come in very late. If you have plenty watchers then you should be ok.

I've sold loads on eBay and only got stung twice selling cables at a much lower price than I expected.

the way i look at it is if your selling a popular well known item that is going to attract bids then i start it at 99p and let the auction run, if your selling a specialist item or something less known i start the bidding at the absolute minimum i am prepare to let it go for and let the auction take its course, if it does'nt attract any bids the first time you can always re-list it rather than give it away for silly money.

Or think of a price you'd be happy with and do a BUY IT NOW.
this will do away with nervousness of an auction. If it doesn't sell drop the price a little and re-list.
But to be honest a well described item will usually find it's level. I sold my Solo mini for 450 and started at just 99p. I was a bit tense.
If it's worth the Buy It Now price you put it up for somebody will almost certainly buy it.

Yes, it's been discussed many times, and it will be in the plans for the future - at some point. No firm timetable yet, for reasons you identified when you said 'carefully monitored'...

Having sold a few items with no reserve, I can say there is a high possibility of not getting the price you feel the equipment is worth.

In hind sight I would have probably set a fair reserve or buy-it-now price, but then I could still be holding the items now months later.

Depends if you have the space to have lots of redundant gear lying around further depreciating.

The hard fact is, most items will only be worth a fraction of what you paid for them. It's a painfully reality that it's a lot easier to buy then to sell.

There is only one bit of gear I have ever regretted selling / giving away. You tend to forget the rest pretty quickly

I've sold quite a few things on fleabay, usually do a buy it now. If it doesn't go then lower it. There are also other places to sell your kit.

Yes that maybe life.....but it's not a great one.Guess most people will be wanting a "free blu-ray player" when you buy a blu-ray film.

iv sold plenty on ebay and got close to what i wanted most times although i did sell a mint linn genki a couple of months ago and only got £280 for it, was expecting more like £350+ almost cried

Hit or miss, I got my Leema Tucana II for just over £1500, 10 months old. £2k cheaper than new. Ouch.

I started at 99p and some items have already got about 5 watchers after 2 hours, so looking good so far.

Will leave it until 2 days to end and see how it goes, might be able to put a buy it now or something.

Wish I could post a link as got some good stuff, but never mind.

There is another forum which has a classifieds section. You set the price you want for the item(s) and people either make you an offer or will quite often pay the asking price. I've sold a few items there and no longer use the bay to sell my hifi bits. Best of all, there are no fees!

thats a great price on the tucana i managed to get my stream for £370 at 3 months old which i was over the moon at.

eBay can be a bit unpredictable. I've had my eye on a x-Ray CD player to go with my x-A2 amp and have been watching a couple which both ended recently.
Both on the face of it were in similar condition and you would expect them to go for similar money.
The first one was well described and the seller would post. This went for £275+p&p
The other one had a pretty short description and was listed as Collection Only will not post, it went for £156
I'm sure you'll agree a massive difference. In hindsight if I knew how much the second one would have gone for I would have bid and done the 6 hour round trip to pick it up.
