scart and hdmi??

sorry if this is a proper dumb question, but ive been reading through my manual for my new tv and was wondering why they show a scart as well as an hdmi going from the dvd player to the tv. I thought hdmi was a one stop shop, ie no need for scarts. Are they just showing all possible connections or is there a benefit from having both??

I would imagine its to show you can use either! not both!

as above and not all DVD players have HDMI connection possibilities.
