Yip. For around 700 spons you should be able to get your mits on a pretty decent s/h Gyro SE. Different league mate , but methinks you have a cronic case of regaitis ;).

I get what your saying but I really have my heart set on an RP6! Yes I have chronic regaitis!

Sure the Gyrodec is better but...

If you had a £500 amp would you invest in a £1800 turntable? TBH, I'd really struggle to justify spending that dough on the Leema. Then you have the practical issues: The Gyro doesn't come with a lid. I've seen them on Fleebay for £200-£300 for Mitchell Gyrodecs. lash that on top of a second hand price for the deck...

Steve said, with a p/ex for his old RP3, it'll work out at £648 inclusive.

Well I have woken up this morning and come to my senses!

Only had my RP3 2 months - I'm totally happy with it so think I am going to take a raincheck on going to demo the RP6!

Sure the RP6 is superb, but im going to lose £200 on the RP3 then will cost me another £450 to get the the RP6 and is the step up in performance going to be signifacant? Also in the context of my system (£500 amp, £438 speakers maybe a £1k turntable is more deserving of the Brio R, albeit still a great amp).

Perhaps I should get the TT PSU on home demo for a week and see if that gives me any improvment for only £200.

I am very tempted, but as I said before I'm totally happy with the RP3 and maybe I should just keep and try some tweaks like a metal sub platter/TT PSU and see how it goes!

Ringing Analogue Seduction now to cancel my demo!

If you're totally happy with your set-up stick with the status quo. The only caveat is (probably) amonth or so time you may get that itch again. If the 'what if' is still there go and look at speakers (Neat Petite, Q Acoustics Concept, Epos, new Focal range or even MA RX1).

Good idea.

I've had my system less than a month and have got the bug badly. I keep thinking why didn't I up the budget and get this, that or the other. Should I get the power speed switch, the acrylic platter, why didn't I go for the CLic, why did I not demo the MF ZwYi whatever.

But do you know what. My system sounds fine. I don't need to buy more kit to improve the sound (soft furnishings aside) and any spare cash I have by not upgrading would be better spent on the kids.

yeah thanks guys!

Spoke to Gary at Analogue Seductions - he was fine - he understood how I felt!

Think probably my speakers are the weakest part of my system.

Suppose I should spend a bit a time today setting up my new Synology NAS while listening to some vinyl!

I could always go the Rega TT PSU route.

Steve, I agree about your speakers, I thought they would suit me and my room but very disappointed Im sure you can find better ones for not too much more money, I would try the KEF R100 or LS50s although no sure the Brio is the best amp for the LS50s. Or Epos and Acoustic Energy would worth a try, AE are in Richer sounds.

I have read that on the RP1 motor is noisy, is that the case on the RP3?

I love the RS1's they don't dissapoint me really with the type of music I mainly listen too now, but sometimes I need my fix of Massive Attack & Orbital and the RS1 do lack a little!

I can live with the RS1 very well, but am interesred what improvemnt I can get but still retaining the musicality maybe Neat Petite is my answer!

Also a different motor on the RP3its the 24v one, it is an upgrade for the RP1

Yes Im sure the RS1s are fine, esp in a smaller room I just think having heard them and others that is your weakess link, so if you want to upgrade I would try some others, yes some love Neats, have not heard them yet also Totems maybe worth a try or Spendors.

Any info. on the RP3 motor is quieter than the RP1?

My latest upgrade to the RP3 is a £30 Belkins mains conditioner. Noticeable improvement to my surprise. Was actually intended to protect the telly.

I've been wondering if there is a cheaper upgrade for the PSU — something like the switched (or is it linear?) supply ones that Maplin etc sell. I've read about those being used to upgrade DACs and the like.

That's not going to work with the Rega decks.

A good cheap upgrade - the white belt.

Anyway I wouldn't get too hung up on the jump to the RP6 - the TTPSU (latest version) will make a significant difference to the RP3. I use one on my P3-24 and it's just as enjoyable as my RP6! (though not as informative)

Get an Exact fitted and don't look back.

The TT-PSU will improve things but not as much so leave that until later.

The white belt is cheap enough so get one anyway.

Get a set of Shure tracking force scales and ensure the tracking force is spot on. (They are more accurate than the scale on the arm.)

If the Exact is too expensive for you then try a Shure M97XE (about £70).

Either way you are going to get more 'oomph' than an Elys can provide. (The Elys is detailed and smooth and 'refined' but hardly the last word when it comes to the boogie factor.)

I have to admit that for the brief time my RP3 w/ Elys 2 was working it did lack a bit of boogie compared to my ProJect 1.3 Genie w/ Ortofon red.

Am tempted to try out the red cartridge but I don't want to put it out of alignment before I sell it.

Wonder if an Ortofon 2m Bue would be better than an Exact? Or is the Exact in a different league?
