Hi,

I went into a shop and got to play with one of these TVs. I watched some of a 720 Blu-ray of the 2006 world cup. The main grumble I had was the inability of the grass to look natural. As far as I can tell LCDs in general make grass look too green almost artificial. I was a very close to buying one but I'm trying to understand why this might be. My 2 CRT TV's have no such colour problems so is it really just a matter of tweaking the many picture parameters. I was advised in the shop before that Plasma TV was the way to go in terms of natural picture reproduction and the energy saving difference was negligible.

Cheers

Peter.

It seems that you're amongst the people who don't prefer LCDs. Plasmas usually have more natural rendition of colours than LCDs. LCDs make colours look brighter (which LCD lovers prefer).

Having said that, TVs on display in shops are not properly calibrated. They're often set to 'dynamic mode' or something similar, which tends to oversaturate colours, with the aim of making it look more attractive.

The 42PFL9664, like most Philips sets, needs a lot of fine-tuning to get the picture looking its best. Doubt they'd bothered to do that in the shop.

Hi,

Up until yesterday, I was concentrating on LCD's!

Computer LCD screens can easily cope with natural looking colours so I would have expected LCD TV's to be the same. However, "The Incredibles" did look Incredible.

The TV was taken straight out of the box and I was allowed to play a little.
