Paranoid about my weight...

I came across the original specification for my universal player (Marantz DV7600) the other day. 10.1lb. Very heavy.

However, when I was rearranging things I picked it up and I'm certain that it weighs significantly less than half that in reality.

The machine works well and is identical to those in the review pictures (although mine is silver, not black). Does anyone know why this should be the case? Am I just being paranoid?

I bought the machine as an end-of-line deal a year or so ago for about £300.

Yup, 4.6 kg. See here.

That's not really so heavy for a decent quality disc spinner.

Thanks Tractorboy.

I'm going to weigh the unit tonight but I am absiolutely convinced that it does not weigh 10lb. More like 4lb.

Could I have bought a fake?

Meh... very unlikely. Fake units are usually easily identifiable from the fact that rather than "Marantz" they're branded "Maranzer", or that type of thing. They're poorly finished and sound rubbish.

Just to put things in perspective, my CD player (Roksan Kandy MkIII) weighs in at 9kg, so your Marantz is just half that.

lol

Or maybe 10.1lb is shipping weight incl packaging, manuals and whatnot.

anarchist12:(although mine is silver, not black).

Silver you say? Well there you go.

It is due to.. "the unbearable lightness of bling"

But bling is heavy, fat, massive even.

Hmmm.... I think I'll go and hide in the wardrobe until the blushing subsides...

Not a fan of Milan Kundera then?

I had to use Wikipedia for that one, I'm a physicist, I left books behind when I decided to read a best seller by Andy McNabb simply because it was a best seller, not a clever thing. Your point is taken, I'm a philistine, my most sincere apologies.

Whereas of course plasma TVs get heavier as all the gas escapes, and is replaced by air. Until you get them regassed, which you should do before all those pixies that make up the picture suffocate.

I wondered why the wall bracket seemed so industrial - that accounts for it. Does the Pixie excement create dark lines at the bottom of the screen?
