Panasonic DMP BD35 problem

Have just bought one and have been unable to get 'normal' dolby digital via the audio optical output.

Amp is a bit ancient : Arcam alpha 10 with DAVE module but has always worked fine and gives great 5.1 sound with an XBOX connected in exactly the same way as the blu ray player and of course my DVD player has always given good 5.1 sound.

I get a lot of pops/loud static type clicks. The soundtrack can be heard then stutters with the pops coming in at random. Have tried with the output set to PCM as well as bitstream which I believe is the correct setting.

Anyway wondered if anyone could shed any light on this or have had similar problems.

Video is via HDMI to a pioneer plasma

thanks

Just a long shot, but go into the player's set up menu and make sure int the 'Sound' menu that 'BD-Video Secondary Audio is set to OFF.
