hammill:Although I share your impatience, before considering the Oppo (I had never heard of the company), I read every review I could ( there are a lot in the US) and I have never come across a more favourably reviewed product (83) or company. Apart from the gushing reviews of the product, Oppo appear to be extremely responsive to any problems. Building a reliable easy to use e-commerce site is non trivial and I imagine Oppo don't want the first impression of UK shoppers to be unfavourable.

A working e-commerce site can be set up in minutes using 3rd party facilities. While a good professional & bespoke site is of course a larger undertaking it's not something that isn't done every day successfully, so failure to provide anything but a netspace providers holding page doesn't inspire me with confidence... Evan a basic site offering little more than marketing gumph about their soon-to-be available wonderful machine would be a bit more professional and hold peoples interest, perhaps taking email addresses so they can inform/remind everyone of it's launch... This could be done from scratch in a morning by someone with basic web design skills... as it stands it all seems a bit amateurish, and as a "new" brand is the last thing they need.

I'll do it for two and a half grand...

Hehe, Unconditional does have a point I feel.... it would take little more than minutes to have put a better holding site in place or even a 'contact us'... Hey ho, just feels like as there are only one or two 'OPPO Elves' and Santa has them all busy reading our letters, checking whether we've been good, and then wrapping up little OPPOs before even turning their attention to building a website from which to sell....

tick tock - hope it's this week, I am similarly questioned daily about whether its available yet and why don't I get something else.... sigh

The clock is ticking, and the oppo site is still dead. Could we be heading to an awards issue with a product we cannot actually buy? Notice I didn`t say award winner, but who knows.

Funny, I've owned one since June.

They're worth the wait. Stop whingeing fellas and give them a chance. They operate on a very slim margin which is part of the reason the product outperforms it's price competition so comprehensively.

Like everyone else, I'm looking to buy another deck (Region B) but for the folks and £450 is better than the £530 I paid for mine (£600 with the Region Free mod installed). But considering the problems most sites experience on launch and the bad mouthing, bad press and bad rep that gets the company, I can quite understand them holding back the site until it's ready. Considering they do everything online, there are a number of elements as well as straightforward inventory that need to be lined up and working, such as support in particular.

I'm sure they'll get their ducks in a row very soon. I would agree with Clare's earlier point that the awards issue is about a lot more than just the entry deadline, it has an impact on sales all the way into the new year and consumers need the best information they can get for more than just the three days between publication and Oppo's site going live, should it take that long.

The site is still not available. Any chance that someone from What HiFi could give them a tinkle to see when we can expect it?

Thanks

"Soon" is still the word of choice from Oppo.

I don't plan to spend any more time chasing it today, when the Manchester Show beckons! Remember that all visitors to the Show (and hopefully subscribers who could receive copies from tomorrow) will be able to read the Oppo review in our Awards issue....

Hence my use of the words 'hopefully' and 'from'.

We've taken Royal Mail out of the loop as far as possible - couriers have taken the copies to regional centres, for example - but from there on in, it's postie to your door. All copies in that system already, so mags could be coming through your post box tomorrow....

I think simply having the name right would be reward enough for the boss...

No worries.

Going back to the subs issues; as mentioned, we're doing all we can, plus - as detailed on other threads - have put extra staff in place on our subscriptions helpline should you have any queries re delivery of your issue (but please give it a couple of days to arrive before you bother them!).

Those details:

This is all taken from an article in your competitor magazine (also on-line), where Oppo are suggesting that they are ceasing their DVD development in favour of focusing on BD development instead. Therefore the new UK operations.

Yep, Andrew, you are absolutely correct, hardly a competitive magazine

I was just struggling momentarily regards how to refer to the publication in question without getting my post axed/edited by the moderators.
