As one of the carrier brethren, we park just around the corner you know, just waiting for you to go out.

I thought everyone knew that

They weren't too happy. Since the construction work going around our place, the bungalow is almost impossible to find. I told the seller (dealer) about this and respectfully asked for the delivery driver to phone me. He never did.

C'est la vie.

Quick update:

The carrier could not give a specific time, so expected between 8am and 6pm. I had to make a couple of local deliveries, and guess what?

When I got back a nice little reminder had been left in the letterbox. Phoned them up and they'll deliver tomorrow. Blimey I was only out for half an hour.

If it makes you feel any better I'm sure my postman likes to knock on our door with a feather. I've lost count of the number of times I've waited in all day with the TV volume turned low and the door betwen the living room and hall open so that I will hear the knock. There's no knock all day and yet when I walk past the front door there's the little card sitting on the floor. *dash1*

To my ears the Pro-ject is not warm or coloured in the strictest sense, especially when the ClearAudio cart was fitted.(although I haven't heard any audible distortion since the days of home-made turntables with a cart stuck in with plasticine).

Nor do you need to spend fortunes on a turntable to get excellent results. I would say my £200 TT has a better SQ than a £500 CDP, in terms of timing, tempo and how you gravitate towards the music. It really is a music-first device. The only major gripe is the fact the cart is low MVs, and thus you have crank the volume up quite consierably.

I wish I had your golden ears PP. My tin ears can hear distortion, wow, flutter, noise, pops, clicks, channel imbalance and monobass. And that was with a turntable several classes better than the Pro-Ject you have. *pardon*

No golden ears, just realistic expectations for a budget TT. You have to own a top-notch amp and an equally adept phono stage; the bass is 3D without wow and flutter (unless you crank it right up); the arm has to be checked to make sure balance and weight is correct. Maybe the one you heard wasn't set-up right - right? If the arm is too heavy the stylus will gauge trenches out of the record.

The realistic approach is that records will have clicks, and the records and TTs need a fettling. Although not perfect, like any other format, it does, however, give you a very creditable option to the wonderful world of hi-fi.

The magical trait about vinyl is the imperfections.

Well, they were two Technics SL-1200MkII, direct drive, with pitch control, no rubber bands and speed presets. Setting up the Ortofon Concorde was a piece of cake, I used a protractor and jewelers scale.

It's not the table that is the biggest culprit, but the horrendously flawed cheap mass made media that carries the information.

I don't get it. Bloody UPS...

If your house isn't bathed in neon lights, and a 40 foot arrow pointing towards the roof, saying: "I'm here, you numpty delivery driver." then you are knackered, it seems. They are truly useless. *help*

Gawd, this CDP better be worth me losing a days wage.

Nope. As vinyl is just another part of our wonderful hobby, the above comments demonstrates a shortsightedness.

+1

Vinyl may not be the last word in accuracy and low distortion but that's missing the whole point. It does/can sound very good and the whole point of it IMO is the sense of occasion and fun that surrounds every aspect of using vinyl.

UPS are usually one of the better ones, luckily I get my stuff delivered to work. I have had a few thing delivered lately and the time slots tracking facilities have been very good DPD have a map with a real time icon of where the van is! Sugden now on eBay! See if I can get my money back. Look forward to your thoughts in the Electro.

Indeed. No-one goes to a rock concert and at the end say 'great group, just wish there was less distortion and feedback...'

Due to the construction work we are tricky to find, but we have had Argos and various other companies deliver without any problems.

Me too. 😀

Every time I hear a live band I enjoy the music and event but can't help noticing the lack of clarity from the PA style speakers and wondering how much better it would be with a higher quality system.

Don't mind me, I'm just stuck at home sick and winding you up. I just find it amusing that vinyl lovers will state that it is the unique sound, atmosphere and idiosyncracies of vinyl that makes it such an experience, which is basically an admission that the technical faults are part of what makes vinyl what it is, but god forbid someone should refer to any part of that as distortion as if the use of the word distortion is some perjorative putting down their tastes.

Really, makes it worth dropping the d-bomb just to see the overwrought reactions it delivers.

I don't listen to vinyl, but if I had the space, etc. I'd give it a go without giving a flying F whether it is "technically" inferior to CD or gives more "distortion". Just enjoy it for what it is, like a fine instrument.

*dash1**aggressive* wasn't a reference to you or others about the virtues of vinyl. It was purely because the second day my CDP hadn't turned up, and I'd spent ages trying to track my bundle (and speaking to a useless customer services, about as much good as a chocolate teapot).

Regards to vinyl repro, I've never said it is superior in any shape or form. What I have stated is that TTs or vinyl gives you distinct alternative. Like any other format it has its pros and cons, and therefore should be embraced ever bit as much as CDs or downloads. Biggest problem I have with vinyl is storage...

Ahh, sincere apologies and I extend my sympathies for the carp delivery service. I'm going to blame chicken pox for my inability to comprehend things.

If only all developed countries worked to the same standard as Japan. You can nominate delivery time slots (roughly 2 hour slots starting from 8am) and it always comes during that time. If there is no set time slot and it comes when you aren't in, you get left a slip, call the driver's number or delivery center and arrange delivery later that day or the next day when you are in. They will deliver as late as 9pm at night, weekends, public holidays...

Vinyl is an alternative I'd consider if I had the space. Hope you CDP comes soon.

Thank goodness for that, I thought it was just me *biggrin*

I always find this amusing.

They might have done if the group in question was the Jimi Hendrix Experience. *biggrin*

Now I know why UPS have their corporate colours in brown.

They are some of the most doziest, idiotic people alive. Sure they're rejects from McDonalds.

As you probably gathered, it won't be delivered until tomorrow, assuming, of course, the driver has the savvi to actually call my mobile phone.
