Hi all! I am trying to cobble together a “decent” affordable HiFi system. For years I used a repurposed Kenwood surround sound AV amp with bookshelf speakers and an Elac Miracord amp that I picked up cheap. My dad had a full Marantz setup in the 70’s with JBL speakers. That’s out of my current price range.
I recently acquired a Sherwood S-7450. (30amp 8ohm) and a Dual 604 turntable. I also run a Zero Zone E834 tube preamp through the receiver. Happy with the sound overall, but am looking for a better “budget” vintage speaker choice. I picked up a pair of Paradigm Phantom performance series speakers at Goodwill a while back and they were a great upgrade over the Kenwood bookshelf speakers, but I know I can do better.
The size height restriction I have is that they can’t be any taller than about 25”. I don’t have a ton of money. Maybe $500 for a pair?
