New Speakers for £2000

Hi,

I am currently in the market for a new set of speakers.

My budget is £2000 and have no preferance as to bookshelves or stand mounts.

Having said that my listening room is only 15ft by 15ft.

I am currently using a

Cyrus DACX+ & power supply,

a cyrus cd transport or pc through a xonar essence st sound card into the Cyrus,

An AVI Laboratory Series integrated Amplifier Type S21 M1

and my current speakers which I like very much although they are the weakest link Monitor Audio RX2'S

Any help much appreciated

Have you heard them?

Do you think they will have the same Bass weight as the RX2s?

In addition to Dynaudio's Focus 160's, ATC's SCM19/SCM40 monitors, Monitor Audio's PL100 and Proac's D18's are also worth a look.

You could sell it all bar the cd and buy some of the new AVI ADM9Ts (and maybe add a sub, although you might not need it).

Im only suggesting it as you have one of AVIs and so familiar with the brand.

I still own (but not using any more) Focus 110. Focus 160 is direct successor of larger Focus 140 from the older series, but with upgraded drivers (tweeter at least). trust me, you don't need to worry too much about bass extension and power with Dyns. and you'll also appreciate that Dyns sound much smoother than your MAs. I auditioned RX1s and found them hard. not unpleasantly hard. but hard nonetheless.

Arriving this week so hope i've made the right choice but I think I have.

Some of these may have been mentioned already, but to not stupidly exceed your budget, the ProAc D18, PMC Twenty.23, KEF R700, B&W CM9, Dynaudio Excite X32, Monitor Audio GX200, and ATC SCM40, should all be on the shopping list. It might be worth stretching a little more to include the Dynaudio Focus 220.

In answer to your later question regarding bass, I think the R700, CM9, and X32 should be at the top of the list. Of course, which will suit better will depend on your amplifier's capabilities.

Just a quick update on the Spendor A6's.

If any ones thinking they would fit in to there system and is thinking of buying these Don't Hestitate!

They are beautiful Speakers giving you everything you thought they would and more!

Every track is new, with more detail, precision and sound staging than before. Subtle but quick , great dynamic and stop and start on a sixpence.

And most of all if you forget the analitical just lovely to listen to!

And the un expected bonus of Great Bass weight that you would have never expected from there size. People saying where's the Sub!!!! And even this is very detail, they are in my opinion just right for this type of system and room.

It's the source Material that gives out first ie the CD / Digital WAV files that give out first you can realy here the limitations of some recordings.

But that doesn't realy grate on you or hamper there performance when your sitting back in your favourite chair rrunning through all your music collection again.

Highly Recommended and not so fussy with positioning either, although I do confess to having the tape measure out for half an hour :/ I realy must get this OCD under control lol.......

Ha jamesym - I just bought some Spendor A5's and had the tape measure out yesterday. Also spirit levelled both speakers more than once to ensure level!
