The directory that contains the avatars is not being flushed at the CDN. compare and contrast:

http://cdn.whathifi.com/sites/whathifi.com/files/imagecache/advf-author-pane/pictures/picture-1031567.jpg

(the cached picture on the content delivery network server)

To ensure a better end-user experience, a content delivery network ("CDN") keeps copies ("caches") of certain parts of an underlying website on multiple web servers ("nodes"), which are widely distributed. This reduces the average time it takes for a webpage to be downloaded, and increases the resilience of the site, as their are now (effectively) multiple identical copies of it available. The stuff cached is usually media content that is regarded as basically "static" - i.e. it won't change over time. The CDN's content is refreshed periodically, so a given node may nor have the latest version of the media file. Individual companies, ISPs, etc. may have their own CDN to help manage the amount of data downloaded from the internet, by keeping local copies. It is these caches that are out of date and that need to be replaced ("flushed").

It was more for Clare to pass on to the operations team than for you, Max.

And I have done just that. We've had a number of 'flushing' issues in the past 48 hours, which may/may not be related...

Thanks JD - always a delight to hear you talk technical 😉

Puzzling... I just deleted your avatar and re-uploaded the Marty Feldman pic - all of which is showing in your user profile. But still Jason King persists.

Time to clear cache, I reckon (and that may be our cache!)
thanks clare 🙂
