Thats not even calibrated - thats just of the box with the correct brightness contrast and colour set a wierd and old fashioned way that seems to work spot on.

Its a real stunner of a setup - its not quite perfect yet because the PJ Mount I bought is turd so I am going to build a PJ shelf for a better more level support. I can get away with not calibrating as I can see its already accurate - but I wont I will calibrate when I have the time to squeeze every ounce out of it I can.

At least I can sit down and watch some stuff for a bit now and show it off to some people.

We had all manner of people over the weekend and I think people were more impressed with the screen coming down than anything else. It really is class - obviously if you like all this black in your house

In the photos of the night time Skyfall shots the blacks arrre darker in the photo - while they adds to the contrast you lose detail - in real life there is a lot of detail in those blacks and its not as dark.

For years people think its all about black level which technically it is - but thats not the strong point of this PJ - its how it resolves the whole image with such clarity and clarity of motion - thats what hooked me.

Also you can have this level of PQ at about 4 metres wide - stunning piece of kit

I took a few more photos last night of a less well produced blu ray - its actually a very early blu ray release that I alwayd thought had rough PQ but it doesnt at all

Its not glossy looking like Skyfall at times but neverther less I was bloody impressed with it watching it on the PJ.

These photos are not paused just taken while its playing so its a bit blurry at times and they are from my seat so its closer and not the whole screen, its too big for the camera

The phone cam struggled a bit with the lower light shots as expected and again its better in real life but even a very old blu ray that I thought was a bit naff on terms of PQ isd atcual;ly really crackingly good

Sorry they are all so samey - I had little phone battery left it was very late last night and some of the other different ones were a bit blurred.

I will snap snap some more when I can.

If anyone likes King Fu - movies - these are 2 good films watched this week. 1 is much better than 2 but 2 has much better picture.

Cheers = its interesting watching Pirtates caribbean for a bit last night and reel steel earlier some scenes look washed out compared to the others.

I never noticeed this on any TV and not on all content - so its likely the content, it could be the fact the PJ is not calibrated and needs doing which it def does.

I placated the wife by installing two sets of black out curtains, one behind the other with the central track overlapping to avoid daylight bleed through. That way when the curtains are open - normal room (ish) - when closed, cinema!

How can photos taken on a phone possibly show the quality of your screen? Like using YouTube to determine sound quality. Ridiculous. BUT - they really do look excellent! Good job! :)

You are right Robin in a way but at the same time it gives an indication of the quality capable from a projector it leaves a tv for dust for movie content.

Tv content is probably better on a tv funny that.

I just watched mad max and it shows what is capable from blu ray visually upon the eve on UHD blu ray.

Jurassic world tomorrow :)

What's better is imam watching a 100 inch screen at about 8 feet in distance just under and it's still perfect to watch - its as immersive as your gonna get

Well I got my screen today and got it up, it fitted perfectly exactly where I wanted it, which is thanks to a lot of planning and a bit of luck - forgot one major factor that could have been a royal pain.

This is a sample video of the initial test of the screen - I will get more details and pictures up iin time.

Not even had the PJ on yet, getting things all tidied up and finished properly
Very cool!

Black levels don't compare to tv's I have owned but this is proof it's not as big a deal as you might think.

Obviously better blacks is the main goal of projector technology but it's the clarity of the image and mocwment that blows your mind.

The projector is roughly £8,900 ( i didnt pay that) and the screen was roughly £2k

It's not comparable to the panny oled thats still savagely expensive for a 65" tv.

I went to Gecko cinema forum day which is seriously great home cinema and the thing that impressed me the most was the pj and that stuck with me and I couldn't get it out of my mind.

The pj is way too expensive for me so I started looking at cheaper ones JVCX500 I had my heart on but it to me was no where near as good at the close range in sit.

I preferred the Sony 55ES to the jvc.

I was almost going to write it off but a vw500 came up ex den with 100 hours on the bulb for a considerable saving from a dealer I have bought from before as it ls te going out model so I snapped it up.

Luckily the newer 520 es model doesn't seem to be much better but does have hdr support. To be honest I can live without that as it stands

Thought people might want to see the difference. I couldn't take photos of the screen when things were moving fast as it was blurry. I got a couple of stills from pause and some quiet moments in the film. It's streamed so blu Ray would be better.

Hello Ellisdj, referring to your post #40 - when I saw Bigboss's projector I was so impressed with the overall image that I didn't even think specifically about black levels, it was all tremendous. You must be feeling the same! So black levels are important yes, but they're not the only criterion.

Also about post #40 - whatever you did pay for the projector, plus £2K for the screen, still in my view compares well with £8K for the 65" Panasonic OLED, or even with £4K for the 65" flat LG OLED, since you are now getting a 100" screen - work out the areas concerned and your projector / screen combination is still better value per square inch than the 4K OLEDs.

Lastly, in your post #25 I'm very impressed that your projector is so good that it can change from Skyfall to Oblivion all by itself! *acute* Cracking camera pictures, by the way, and yes, I know that's the actual projector pictures are even better!

It doesn't compare because its not like for like.

You can compare the uber expensive panny oled to all other 65 inch tv's but projectors can do much much bigger - such as 4 metre wide screens are more than doable with this pj. If you go to Jag home cinema you will see there its like actually being in a small cinema for home cinema it's huge 30 feet x 30 feet think it is.

So while it's a similar expenditure it's just not the same or fair to compare

The oled will be miles better for blacks and accuracy and dynamic range and all sorts, but as you say pj's are a bit special for movie content but depends on what you want.
