Does anyone have a mains conditioner, and do they actually make any difference to the picture and sound,i already have a surge protecter but the wife pointed out a plethora of sockets costing about £120 in comets yesterday by a company called Monster.I cant remember ever seeing a review of anything like this in the mag, thought i would start here with all you intelligent guy's and girl's first, then start trawling the internet. It would be a lot of money to spend on something and not actually see or hear any difference.Thanks.

I have for many years now found the enjoyable benefits of improvements to the mains.

I started out fitting Russ Andrews 'Classic Powerkords' along with using 8vs speaker cables on my system (back in 1988ish) which consisted of a Meridian 207 CD/pre-amp, Cyrus 6/PSX,
Rogers LS6 speakers, Thornes 160s/Hadcock GH242SE arm.

The system was very good to start with, but with the extra bits fitted it made music even more enjoyable. There are now a much wider range of products on the market today varying from £24 (tacima block) up to Balanced Mains Transformers costing £2500!

I have 2 currently on my system, with 500 and 125va transformers from British Telecom snapped up off Ebay for £40! Along with Powerkords, Kimber, Tacima.
I totally agree with what Russ says below, it's so true.

We really can't emphasise strongly enough how important a clean mains supply is to getting truly enjoyable music and pictures from your Hi-Fi or Home Cinema.

Not only can the improvements you gain be very significant, but they will also enable you to gain the full benefit of upgrades elsewhere. Benefits that would otherwise be masked by mains pollution.

Or if you don't have such a vivid imagination as Trev you could just buy a decent surge limiter.
