MA RS6 owners - rear bung, front bung, no bung?

I'm curious if people are plugging the ports on their monitor audio RS6 and RS8 speakers. I've got mine space about 7 feet apart, 14 inches from rear walls and 24 inches or more from any side walls. Plugging the rear port seems to tighten up the midrange and bring out more detail.

Bungs in & out, socks in & out, speakers toed in, speakers straight on, tweeter mesh removed, mesh back on - I keep experimenting.

I tend to use the rear bungs when the speakers are near wall - but for "serious" listening I move the speakers out and remove the bungs.

This is all about fine tuning your system to your room and listening positions in it.

Personally I have removed the tweeter mesh.
Have the fronts slightly toed in, 8' apart and 15" off the back wall with free space to the sides.
As my RS8's are part of the RS AV system run off an Onkyo 875 AV amp, I have rolled off the deep bass and allow the Sub to integrate seamlessly, so plugging the ports is not necessary.

My main listening position is about 20' away.

I like the extra bass that I get with no plugs, but when I plug the rear ports, there is a very noticable difference in the clarity and detail from the midrange. Voices become very crisp and articulate. This makes sense since the rear port would seem to be for the midrange driver while the front port is for the lower driver. Even with the rear port plugged there is still good solid bass extension.

With the rear port unplugged, there is bass you can feel. Pretty much sub-woofer level bass, but still not boomy. It's massive bass, but tight. I really like it with most music, but if I play something that is packed with deep bass its a little too much, but this is rare.

That's pretty much what i do, too. Drum&bass, techno - anything with a fast beat - rear port bung (only) goes in to tighten up the bassy beats. For every other type of music, the bung it stays out! I never cover the front port.

I have still yet to properly listen to these speakers, but from all the plaudits it has received, it sounds like these are fantastic speakers. Maybe in the future I might think about buying a pair. I think what makes these speakers stand out is they were released quite a while ago now and yet are still talked about as if they are something brand new on the market.

Never used the bungs, left them in the box and put them in the attic!
Never find the bass overwhelming even tho the listening room is small(ish) at 4.5m by 4m.
They are positioned about 2m apart, 30cm from the rear wall and 40cm & 1m from side wall.

I couldn't be happier with them, my perfect speaker!

My God I'm expecting a pair of RS8's tomorrow. I've enough head scratching to do with the crosswire mod, nevermind bungs!
