I am seriously considering these headphones and the money off makes them even more appealing!

Do you reckon they are a worthy step up from the Shure SE110? I may get them when I get my Christmas money =D. Has anyone heard the Denon AH-C751? How do they compare?

Anyone else got their eye on them? *Drinks a glass of water to calm down*

The Klipsch Images won our best premium in-ear headphone awards, with the Shure's winning in the mid-price category - so yes, the Klipschs are a big step up in performance, and better all-rounders than the Denons (which are great, but a tad laidback).

What's also great about the X10s is their design - far less 'scary' than the Shures etc: they don't look/feel as if they're going to burrow into your brain, yet stay put in your ears. They are known around these parts as 'the in-ear headphones for people who don't like in-ear headphones'.

Sounds like my cup of tea. I'll just have to hope they have some left in the start of January. Hopefully they are also a tad more comfortable than the Shure's while on the treadmill! Thanks for your reply Clare.

Clare,

How do they compare to the Custom 3's? The Image X10 seem to be the top of the range but everyone seems to currently sell them for less than the 3's. Are they smaller and do they have more/less driver units? The review seemed to say the base is good but I didn't get what they have in them. I have some Custom 1's which I like, even with the bad WHF review (but they only cost £17 and I use them with a touch for just video) and I find them really comfortable. So I'm stuck as to which to go for, especially with the current discount on the X10. What would you suggest? I basically want a better pair to go with my classic and I don't find my Goldrings comfortable. I listened to the Shure 530's at Excel and I loved the sound but I found them less comfortable than the Klipsch. As the discount on the X10 runs out soon I'd much appreciate your advice.

The Images are definitely a step up from the Customs in our opinion - full specs on both sets here (sadly no compare function).

Thank you very much. The X10 it shall be then.

I have just ordered these to go with my new iPod Nano. A review of the X5's by Matthew Bingham in today's Sunday Times says that the music needs to be saved as "high quality files" to notice any real difference. How do I do this when downloading music from iTunes or Windows Media Player?

Many thanks

Regards

Andrew

You need to make sure the bit-rate is as high as possible - that means less compression is being used, so (in short) you hear more of the original recording.

If you're downloading from iTunes, try and pick iTunes Plus tracks (the ones with a little + sign by them), as they have a bit-rate of 256kbps - twice that of standard iTunes downloads (128kbps).

If you're recording your own CDs via iTunes or Windows Media Player, look under the recording/ripping options and set the bit-rate to a minimum of 256kbps - ideally you'd pick a Lossless format (such as Apple Lossless in iTunes) so you lose none of the track's information, but these files can be large, and you could fill your iPod Nano up very quickly!

Thank you for this. There appear to be an ever increasing number of songs in iTunes Plus, also some Amazon downloads are in 256kbps.

I'm not sure about your third paragraph regarding impoting my own cd's into iTunes. When I insert a cd with iTunes open, it just asks if I want to import. I tried searching for Lossless but no joy. How do I find the recording/ripping options to pick a lossless format?

Regards

Andrew

To import CDs using apple lossless, or the other available formats;

In itunes select Edit on the top tool bar.

Then select Preferences, the last option in the drop down box.

You should go straight to General in the box that appears, if not select that tab.

Halfway down you should see Import Settings, select it.

At the top of the box that appears you will see Import Using and a drop down box. All of the options, including Apple Lossless Encoder are there. Select the one you want and OK.

OK!

What are your thoughts about the Klipsch Image X5?

is it a duel driver as well as the X10? is the X5 a worth upgrade to the Shure SE110?

Thanks,

Dan.
