I don't know what Spotify's QC procedure is, but I have noticed on several occasions that albums have either exhibited complete loss of tracks or weird sounds that smack of recording errors occurring during their 'ripping' process. I have yet to investigate a feedback option to report problems.

Me too - Danny Wilson's 'Be Bop Mop Top' being a prime example. I have a good mind to invite Roberta to lunch to castigate her.

Can you name some tracks so I can have a listen?

As for feedback, I have reported some album listing errors, got a nice e-mail reply and nothing has happened.

Castigation is a bit harsh.

Try Rimsky Korsakov's Scheherazade (Track 1) by Sergiu Celibidache & Munich Phil. [EMI 2005 Re-Master].

Also

The Faithful Anchor by Unwed Sailor - sorry, cancel that, playing OK this afternoon (must have been network error).

JohnDuncan:Gusboll:That's me down the charity shop for the Alba then.Have you heard Spotify at 320kbps?

Yes, it is ok, but lacks warmth and involvement.

Maybe just a drink then.

chebby:Does everything you listen to have to be warm?

mmmmmmmm

I use 'warm' to describe cosseting, involving, as in what you find with a decent turntable. To me the compression cuts out those factors which has a detrimental effect on sound quality. Just what appeals to me.

An example was the other night when a guy wanted to listen to my amp, he brought his Bryston B60R and it was very apparent even using my CDP with it, that it wasn't as nice as my AA. Voices didn't have the same level of, well warmth, not as natural sounding, not as close your eyes and enjoy etc etc

ESP2009: crusaderlord:interestingly i used to have the premium service but eventually decided to go back to normal and use the £10 per month to buy a couple of cd's per month or some vinyl instead i find that spotify is a great way to find new music but i much prefer using the monthly fee to actually own the hardware than pay for the streaming and have nothing long term to show for it its a matter of perspective i guess

A fair perspective, and I agree about discovering new music. I have mentioned elsewhere that I am now combining Spotify with the 'what are you listening to?' thread on these forums. Excellent.

JohnDuncan:I feel slightly queasy now.

That is exactly how I feel when listening to warm/soft/smooth systems. A sort of fugginess like the air has become cotton wool, and the bass 'phlumphs' with no sharp impact. It all gets too much and induces a headache eventually. I would have to open some windows and listen to some traffic noise for a bit of 'reality'.

I like systems with clarity and presence.

So guests now bring their own amps? That would tell me something

He was auditioning my amp, he is going to see how much he can get for his Bryston and then get back to me. I had arranged the audition when I thought I was going to win the Unico 100, I've removed it from fleabay now, but I will consider a good offer from Stuart as I quite fancy an ATC SIA2-150

I'm also auditioning some valve amps tomorrow whilst I get my new DAC upgrade fitted to my CDP.

I ask because I know of AA well and in a few months will be looking at buying a tt. Had thought about Clearaudio but some reviews say it is too clinical.

Ah but you see Chebby, my system has those in abundance too.

I don't have one, I would if I had much vinyl. I tried a Pro-Ject Debut 3 for a while but it was poor in comparison to my CDP so I got rid. I couldn't justify spending another £1500 on a TT.

Example of possible poor ripping is Bobby Gentry - Local Gentry. From track 4 onwards the start of the next track is on the end of the previous track. It's the same in 160 & 320kbs.
