In my search for the correct dock for iPod, I have stumbled accross these little ones.

Has anyone got any experience of them?

Cygnett Unison U-S-IXDV

Griffin Airdock

I must admit I am leaning towards the Unison item

77 views and no opinions????

Surely someone has heard of the company or the item itself.

sorry, never heard of either of those.

TBH most docks are similar, it's the phono leads you use with them that make the most difference (in my opinion). People tend to rate the Arcam R-Dock as a premium product, and the Apple own-brand dock as a budget one. I have a Denon ASD-R11 (I think) and threw away the phono leads and replaced with Chord Company Crimson (they're quite alluring, google them!). The remote control function (on the Denon at least) is very poor. I ended up disconnecting it and opting for manual usage - it's incredibly slow and frustrating.

Another good option would be the Russ Andrews GQ-24 with either UltraPhono or Nickleplate or the GQ-25Ag (if you're feeling flush). Although these will neither charge, nor offer remote control function.

Many thanks for the info :)

My local Hifi Dealer thinks there may be an issue with copyright on the GQ cables, plus I would rather the iPod stood up in a stand or something.

I have some Chord Co cables and they are awesome, not bad prices too.

Yes of course, the dealer thought that there would be a copyright issue with the GQ cable using an ipod plug/adaptor.

Apparently the item should have the "approved for ipod" sign on it somewhere.
I can see his reasoning but surely someone wouldn't be daft enough to produce and sell a cable with an iPod connector on without first seeking permission?

so the issue is that Russ Andrews may not have paid a licence fee to Apple for use of their proprietary plug system? Even if that is the case, I'd struggle to care! It's a top rated product according to what hi fi and others. The Russ A site mentions that there may be some issues using with a touch or an iPhone, but they have a fix for it (switching to aeroplane mode).

On the "Made for iPod" thing - I recall seeing one of those cassette-adapters that you plug into your headphone socket and then put into your car stereo made by belkin with "made for iPod" on it. It was £21. It was beside another version of the same thing. It was neither white nor "made for iPod" but it did the job just as well. It was £3.99....

Yes, I concur and furthermore will not lose sleep about the "made for ipod" issue. My concern was merely for warranty etc.

It seems I was barking up the wrong tree with those 2 suggestions for docks as neither have phono outs :-(

Onkyo anyone?

I was one of the original viewers with no comment to make, as I had heard of the products but have no experience of them. Nor, as far as I am aware is any other regular forum contributer.

As for the RA GQ-24, if there is a copyright issue, then there may be questions over any LOD (line out dock) connector. But there are loads on the market. What may well happen, again, is that Apple change the connector, so that the present GQ-24 does not fit anymore. But the GQ-24 fits present ipods. You can also buy stands so it sits upright.
