Okay, I seem to have lost the Sky picture? Blu-ray still working.
Gel,

I have a funny problem with my Panasonic GT50. My PS3 is in HDMI 1 and my FreeSat in HDMI 2. Sometimes my FreeSat turns on fine and othertimes I get no display. The way round it is to put it on HDMI 1, turn the FreeSat on then change channel to HDMI 2 and it works. Very strange, but this might be the problem with your Sky if you have Blu-Ray in HDMI 1 and Sky in HDMI 2

Rocket
I did think of something like that, I will have a fiddle and see, cheers!

Already those pictures look better than most of the stuff Gel posted from the LG.

I kept saying the LG needed calibrating :)

Keep them coming Gel. 65" for 16:9 content is a lovely size even at 12 - 15feet.

However 2:35 / 2.40 content i.e. letter box you really need to sit close I think like 7-8 feet for that screen size. How close do you sit Gel?
13 feet away, yep I will keep trying with the pictures although I end up zooming right end which I am sure is not helping the picture.

I am loving the size of it!

Jolly good, and despite your interminable assertions to the contrary, such as "55 inches is my max, my stand won't take bigger" it's not too big for your Optimum AV300 stand is it, Gel, huh?

It doesn't feel that big.

Of course it won't feel that big, it's "only" a 65", say I in my best superior fashion!!

Sitting 13 feet away will not make 4k look any different to 1080p

Well, people could discern the difference at 9 feet for a 55-inch TV, so it should be noticeable at 13 feet.

http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/4k-resolution-201312153517.htm

How far are you from the screen?

i myself am about 8ft away from my 55". but i couldn't really care less about streamed "4k". once the UHD blu rays come out which offer better quality and bitrate i will move my sofa closer so i will be 6ft away so i get more use out of the resolution

What was the issue then?
Sky sound was setup to Dolby Digital when I had to set it up to normal with the Sky remote. Got all the HDMI inputs working now too.

How do I get 4K up-scaling working? Do I have to wait for my HDMI cables to turn up today?

If the picture is filling the screen (and not letterboxed to central 25%), upscaling is already happening. You don't need HDMI cables for that.

You seem to be very confused about HDMI cables. Your existing cables are fine, and will work. You only need one to connect your 4K blu ray player when it arrives.

What a difference a calibration makes - it was never the camera and those shots prove it.

The LG was setup badly Gel - its not a bad TV.

Loving those images - Trojan of a TV

EDIT - please move closer so we can see the fine detail - frame only the image - dont want to see any background

Double Edit - how about some 16:9 blu ray content images not compressed sky footage - thanks

Indeed you did, ellisdj. I seem to remember that Gel's LG had very solid blacks, but with not much detail in the blacks. Let's hope that whoever buys Gel's old LG does get it calibrated.

When the 65" Panasonic was in the parlour, I was 11 feet 6 inches away, when in the middle row of seats. The leather sofa which formed the front row of seats was 8 feet away.. Now that the 75" Sony has replaced the Panasonic, the distances are the same. And no, before anyone writes to tell me that 8 feet is too close to a 75" 1080p televison - it isn't.
