I have the new box, so maybe will try coax.

I am having volume problems and also wierd clicking/beeping when it goes from PCM to DD.

So its just a digital coax I need yes?

Andrew Everard:Only if the Sky+HD box also provides a coaxial digital output.

Are there any advantages to using optical over coaxial or vice versa?

Thanks

That depends who you ask. As the opinion is divided, the safe answer is no (which is prob the right one anyway)

Can you damage a optical lead?

And if so what would be the effects, would I get this beep or weird noise changing between PCM and DD?

You can damage any lead, but usually if an optical lead is damaged the signal doesn't get through at all.

Assuming this noise is coming through the speakers, then I suspect it may be a problem with the muting relay in the amp designed to cut the signal for a second when the channel is changed, and the digital to analogue converters in the amp momentarily unlock from the digital audio signal and then lock on again.
