How do I tell what new OTs I need?

I have a cheapish Music angel tube amp mentioned previously that I would like to improve - maybe OT's would be a good start - the existing ones look like something from the 1930's. I cant find a schematic for it, only that its a PP 40w pc @ 8ohms. 4 x EL34s.

does anyone have a suggestion or do I need more info? Cant find much info on this amp.

You are taking on a big job here.

Firstly a pair of transformers that will be superior to what you have will be expensive, up to £100 assuming you can find anything of the right spec. Decent advice will be hard to find too, you will probably need to search enthusiast websites such as DIY audio

Secondly they will not be a direct replacement, you may need to do some metalwork to make them fit and still there will be no real guarantee of substantially improved performance.

All in all, not a project to be taken lightly.

In the other thread i showed you a link to a forum where someone changed faulty placed resistors on the circuit board (he had a schematic too). It solved his problem. I don' t know if you checked that ?!

He had a schematic, but I don't. Also,.the the thread is ten years old, the amp might not even be the same now.

That the thread is old and the amp too, doesn't mean it is not valid anymore. At least it could lead to something. If the man has the schematics, they exist, and you could obtain them too.

I would not make an investment in OT's as they are expensive, and other things could be wrong with your amp.

If in doubt, audition some other valve-amps.

well, I dont think theres anything actually wrong with the amp - its just really underwhelming for what I was expecting a tube HIFI to be. Ive used tube amps for instruments for years, so I know the extra dimension involved in sound quality. Yeah, music production is different from music re-production, and its a cheapy chopstick model anyway.

Im not in a position to audition amps - the one I have was a gift. Im no stranger to chopping and changing components, although no expert.
