Well my horoscope yesterday said 'luck will call at a door with 44 on it', and I live at number 44.

Guess what my luck was.

We had some people coming round for dinner last night so we were just tidying up and I saw that my little boy had pushed both the tweeter and drive units in on both my speakers. Well chuffed, but I have managed to get the tweeters back out with a vacuum cleaner - no luck with the drive units. And it made a massive difference to the sound quality.

But my 'luck' didn't end there.

About 11pm, with dinner well into the swing, we were in our diner and one of the guys decided to go to the toilet, then came running in saying there was a fire in the living room. A candle had set off the whole bookshelf, a few minutes later and much hosing later it was out, a bit of damage but could have been a lot worse, slight cabinet damage on one speaker. No injuries thankfully. Anyway after the firemen, ambulances, police had gone on their merry way, we carried on and had a good, if somewhat different, night.

But that wasn't all.

Because the house was very smoky we stayed at our friends', came back this morning to find a congestion charge fine on the doormat.

I'm feeling very lucky I have to say!

And any suggestions on getting teh domes on the drive units out gratefully appreciated. Sticky tape doesn't work either, at least not the ones I've tried.

Through some salt over your shoulder - quickly!

Pleased everyone is alright!

Try blutak? Failing that, by removing the unit you MAY be able to push it back?

Just a thought.

I removed the unit but it's sealed. Blu Tak won't work. It looks like the driver units are made from a type of cloth with holes so it doesn't get sucked, it's also quite a heavyweight material. Not budging at all.ÿ

Joel, Joel, Joel! What a nightmare! It seems to have been one of those days because our data centre flooded biblically. I hope you get it sorted mate, just get an insurance claim on those speakers. Good luck...

Ouch! I second the advice re insurance - what with police etc in attendance, you should have no problem convincing your insurer of the need for some replacements.

Not good.....maybe the lesson is not to beleive in horoscopes. Sorry, unable to offer advice re the tweeters....I would have said either blutak or vacuum as already suggested. Happy to hear that no one was hurt. Instaed of wasting time reading horoscopes maybe you can invent a way to stop prying fingers getting where they shouldnt. Might just be a simple case of using supplied grilles until the young'un is housetrained.

In light of what's happened, Joel I think you should re-name it "Horrorscope."

Good luck

very good of you to provide entertainment for your dinner guests.

i'd definitely be claiming on the insurance, in the meantime maybe a fishing hook on the drive units? also, you should set up an electric fence(with its own mains cable) around your speakers. these can be set to non-lethal, if you wish.

I emailed Derek at Kudos and he replied this afternoon. Told me to take the driver units out and in the back of the magnet is a small vent hole. I managed to push the end of an artist's brush down it and push the dust covers on the bass driver back out. One is perfect, the other is 95% perfect. Needless to say baffle covers are staying on when kid is around although coming off for listening sessions when he's asleep.

I will be claiming on the insurance as the cabinet is damaged on one speaker, and they are pair matched on the wood so need to get 2 new ones or at last 2 new cabinets fitted.

No doubt the insurance company will try to fob me off with Curry's vouchers.

A little bit of positive in the rubbish news then! New pair of Kudos for the front and a nice pair of matching effects speakers for the rear. All you need now is a centre and AV processor...

You never know Iggs. I could profit out of this, but having been burgled a couple of years ago, I will have to watch out for the insurance company's tricks. I would be more than happy with a new pair of C2s. Although I have seen some ex-dem C20s for £2,100 so if I got the money...

And 'er indoors would never know!

Just heard that they've been sold from Radlett Audio, but David who runs it has said that he will help me on the cost on a new pair if I get the chance with the insurance. He's a very nice bloke and has answered every email I have sent him before and after purchase. Highly recommended, albeit he only really sells expensive kit.

Cheers Stu, it's my pride and joy as you know. Well as far as material things go anyway, little Thomas got shouted at for about 5 seconds before I felt guilty and realised that he didn't understand as he's only just turned 2 and is a little treasure almost always. ÿ
