I was wondering what What Hifi readers like to use as demo/audition cd;s and movies? You know,the ones with the pristine production values that make your friends go "Wow...I want one"!

For CD,i use:- "The seduction of Claude Debussy" by Art of Noise as my 'weapon of choice',and for movies it has to be the BD version of Top Gun....you cannot beat the sound of the intro!!!

For sound in Blu-Ray movies, The Dark Knight would be in there for low end test. Another one I discovered last night was Any Given Sunday - the gridiron scenes I think provide a massive test with the ambient crowd cheers, the rumble and crunch of the players coming together and separating this from the dialogue going on over the top is a pretty stern test for any surround system.

For music it has always been;

Massive Attack 'Angel', for the bass to check distortion distortion and background noises for detail.

Ash 'Oh Yeah', to see how well the kit copes with poorly recorded music.

Pink Floyd 'Summer '68' due to the stereo effects, time changes and mix of classical and rock instruments.

Gomez 'Whippin Picidilly, for the complex musical arrangements and to check on clarity.

Cd's I use are Thunder And Consolation-New Model Army-The bass in I love the world can get a bit muddy also nice to hear the thunderstorm on Green and Grey really loud.

Broken-Nine Inch Nails-the complex stereo during happiness in slavery is a good tester

Wish You Were Here-Pink Floyd-nice to hear the sigh during the title tracks opening

The Crossing-Big Country-I just know this album so well. I've got it on cassette, vinyl and original and remastered cd.

As for movies

The opening helicopter pan in Cliffhanger, The cigar smoke blowing into Arnies face during the opening bar scene of Terminator 2.

As for BD I'm with the proff' on Dark Knight. Ratatouille also is very good for pic 'n' sound.
