I'm interested in Sony's 2014 4K offering, especially with its tie up with Netflix.

I was just about to suggest you this one!

The 905 uses "local dimming edge lighting."
It's a deceptive piece of marketing language, but it's still an edge lit TV, and it still suffers from uneven lighting as a consequence.

So the F8500 will go as black as the GT50 in Professional mode, and considerably brighter.
The F8500 is also better with 50Hz motion, so is probably better for watching football.

Hmmm....that is deceptive. Sony never released this model in the UK, hopefully 2014 will bring better news.

Oh I'm not. I'm placing faith in your powers of persuasion!
BIGBERNARDBRESSLAW said:Come over, and I'll introduce my wife to you, then start a conversation on the merits of Korean tvs. You'll see.

I normally like a challenge, but I think I'll avoid face-to-face confrontation in this instance.
I'm happy to correspond by email.

How long is her reach? I can take a virtual punch without staggering.

Looks like a Sony 905 is your answer.
I can offer no further assistance, virtually or in person.

I'll call my local John Lewis tomorrow and see what they say.
Did you get to see the F8500 in action? If so, what did you think? (I appreciate that it's difficult to judge a plasma TV's quality in a brightly lit store, with the TV displaying demo material and almost certainly set to Dynamic.)
