@oldboy - is your TV wall mounted?

I'd like to get an idea of how it will fit onto my existing bracket, and wondered how you 'get around' the 'lump' on the back?

My bracket swivels away from the wall so that we can watch TV, so flush wall mounting is not an option!

Yes Mr W my F8000 is wall mounted and fitted onto my existing flat mounting bracket without any issues, fortunately I had the foresight to buy a very good universal bracket from AVF that fits TVs up to 65 inches when I was looking for a good wall mounting solution. It wasn't cheap (about £150 I think) but its mounted my GT30 then my Sony 46HX853 and now the 55F8000 so it was a worthwhile investment.

When it comes to the bump on the back...I have had no issue with it, the 55F8000 has a standard vesa mounting and it's actually on the bump so it doesn't cause any issue when wall mounting. Hope that helps.

Hope the TV turns up soon and that you are happy with it.

Edit: I forgot to say that the mounting holes are set out so that two are on the bump at the bottom and the other two are above on the screen rear, these two at the top are obviously set further back due to their position so two adaptors are included with the TV which you screw in then mount your bracket on to them to get a flush fitting.

The price has dropped again:

Hit them with a price match.

Thanks gel

£50 less than I paid, but they omitted to include the £30 delivery charge on the last price match.

If they pick this up this time then it's only £20 cheaper

Although there has been a pile of hassle, they have been good to me, so I'll leave this alone until it drops dramatically... (fingers crossed £200 falls off it in the next 28 days!)

N.B. I also noticed that JL have dropped their price to £1899 (in line with Currys), but that the TV is out of stock again after only 4 days...

That's the real problem at the moment. I'm on the brink of a resolution with John Lewis, but available replacements offering anything approaching comparable performance are nonexistent.

Hopefully Peter Tyson will have one or two Samsung 51F8500s left if/when I'm offered a full refund.

Incidentally, my GT50 is going into JL's 'loan pool'

Wasn't aware they had loan TV's (certainly wasn't offered one when my GT50 went to be looked at for 18 days...)

That's strange MrW as my Panasonic TX-L42E6B for my bedroom is arriving on Thursday from John Lewis :bounce:

I really hope you are happy with the F8000 when it arrives as I couldn't be happier with mine, any problems just post on here and hopefully I can help but I'm sure all will be well. Just bear in mind that the picture will appear rather cool in nature as Samsung ship all their TVs with a strong blue bias to the colour, my calibrator said this was the least offencive approach to colour when shipping TVs but does lend the picture a cool tone which really needs dialling out.

Best wishes for Thursday and I just hope it's the end of a long saga at that point

Yep, when I had my fan fix I was offered a loan one if I needed it but luckily I didn't.

Hi gel

What I meant was that JL themselves had loan sets...

I can understand their sub contracted engineers having loan sets, but not JL themselves

In reality I am sure an employee of JL will snap this up at some bargain 'take it home today no warranty' price

I've even got the original box and all the packing, so it's coming off the wall and back into its box!

Yep, it was John Lewis who offered me a loan set if required.

Well, the 50GT50 is off the wall and all packed in it's box ready to leave

The end of one chapter, and the beginning of another me thinks...

Great news MrW :bounce:

All you need to do now is give it a calibration of some sort, even a basic THX DVD calibration will give you a far better image. Enjoy the TV and I wish you years of trouble free viewing.

Thanks guys

So, what is the 'running in' period for an LED LCD?

I've used the calibration settings from AV Forums to get me started, more to give me something other than the basic ones

Inital impression is that this TV is everything I was expecting, and it compares very very favourably to the GT50 (the GT50 had been calibrated to a point, and had some 1200 hours of use, this is a few hours old!)

I'm not sure there is a run in period for led LCD tv's. Its not like a plasma with run in hours before it hits it's best. I was thinking more to compare material you have previous watched.

i hope it stays as positive as your first impressions, here's for many years trouble free viewing :)

OK, here's an observation which will come somewhere out of leftfield...

My Panasonic 520 Soundbar works significantly better with this TV than the GT50.

When I say works better, the sound from the soundbar appears clearer, but the biggest improvement is the wireless sub

It used to hiss and crackle and have a hollow sound with the GT50, I even had it looked at and they said the only thing could be other 2.4Ghz wireless devices interfering with it. I made sure everything in the same room used 5Ghz instead, including the TV, but the noises were still there

Now, with the F8000 (wireless on 5Ghz) there is no hissing, crackling or hollow type sounds

Who'd have thought that a Panasonic TV would have interfered with a Panasonic peripheral??!!

I don't know much about sound bars, but does your wireless sub gets its signal (audio) from the soundbar or the TV? I would have thought it was the soundbar in which case surely the TV shouldn't have made any difference? Very strange indeed and a little ironic that it works better with a non panasonic product!
