aaaarrrrrrgggghhhhhhh!!!!

John Lewis are out of stock of the 55F8000 again, and now the price has gone back up to £1999, which means I have to fork out more in order to buy it then get a refund on the NKU price match for the difference

Starting to think that forces are working against me on this one.... hold on, yes they are, 'they' are called John Lewis!

So I should have been awaiting delivery of my new TV, but instead I now have to go into battle with them again to try and sort out the mess

JL's 'policies' have been the biggest hurdle in all of this

I've emailed the manager I am dealing with this morning and said enough is enough, I need a resolution today, and not one that means me paying out hundreds today only to get a refund after delivery of the F8000

To be honest, I think they have lost sight of the 'customer' here, mainly due to the red tape that they are creating

To my mind, they need to cut to the chase, take the agreed 'swap over' money from me, secure me a new TV and get it delivered, and take the GT50 away.

Job done, hopefully the end of this sorry saga that started in 2011 with the purchase of the GT30 from them!

I paid by debit card in August 2011, and then a 'top up' by debit card in September 2012

The biggest issue as I see it is that JL price match in their shops on the spot, you pay the lower price...

When dealing with JL online the policy is different.... You have to pay the advertised JL price (this TV was £1749 until yesterday in their sale, now its £1999) Then, when it has been delivered and you are happy with it, you call them and they refund the difference back to you

This means they have your money for about 2 weeks (good ploy!)

In my case, I now have to 'find' a further £250 more than I would have if they had sorted the order on Friday last week, as the price of the F8000 has gone back up

I'm at my wits end with all of this.

The 'stupid' thing is that I could call JL in Birmingham, get a price match with total digital (as total digital are based in Birmingham) and then pay the reduced price and await delivery. (I would first have to call JL online, arrange collection of the GT50 and await a refund) (I live 150 miles away from Birmingham by the way)

Why JL online can't accomodate me after all the hassle is beyond me!

P.S @strapped, no credit cards in this household, I don't believe in them! (if you haven't got it, then you can't spend it is my motto!)

I've always used a credit card for all my purchases & pay them in full by direct debit every month. Never paid a penny in interest. As a result, I have built a strong credit rating (which is not possible with a debit card) and I get additional protection for purchases of goods and holidays as per section 75.

So it's a myth that only people who haven't got the money to pay use a credit card.

@BB, I just don't do credit cards after my ex wife thought the idea was to run them up to the credit limit

My credit rating is also good, but I work on the principle that as I don't owe anyone any money for anything I don't need credit cards, and to be honest it works for me

I buy large electrical items from JL, that way I get a degree of protection although on this occassion their policies are the stumbling block!

We use credit cards all the time as well, but I don't think we have paid interest on them for over 20 years now.

Used to rate tart a lot on them as well but lots less deals around now.

OK, getting back on topic (sorry guys) I've had an email from JL and it would appear that they are almost as frustrated with the situation as I am!

They have devised a way for me to pay them only what I owe them (apparently my receipt will look odd, but quite frankly I'm not bothered about that)

The only fly in the ointment now... no stock of the 55F8000

However, they are expecting more this week, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that by the end of the week I will be nearing the end of this 'journey'

Great news Mr W...finally some light at the end of a very long and drawn out saga. Let us know when it's all sorted and you have a delivery date, I just hope you are happier with the 55F8000 when you get it. Kudos to John Lewis for finally coming through for you even though it took a while to get there.

@oldboy - is your TV wall mounted?

I'd like to get an idea of how it will fit onto my existing bracket, and wondered how you 'get around' the 'lump' on the back?

My bracket swivels away from the wall so that we can watch TV, so flush wall mounting is not an option!

I'm glad you got there in the end, Mr W. Here's hoping you'll be happy with your new TV!

Relatedly, I've been on the phone to John Lewis this evening. They're acknowledging the problem with my VT65, backed by the service engineer's report, and will call me tomorrow AM to clarify my options. I'll need to make a decision on how to progress.

It breaks my heart a little to send the Panny back. The picture is genuinely sublime a lot of the time. If not for the intrusion of cyan and red tints to the left and middle of the screen with some content, I'd more than happily agree with several reviewers' "reference status" verdict.

It's nevertheless a faulty product; and I'm not willing to gamble by keeping it in the hope things might get better. (Things could improve; they could get worse. It seems more likely that they'll stay the same, since I've seen no obvious change over roughly 2,000 hour's viewing.)

While a resolution is certainly good news, I remain completely confused about what to do next... :?

Thanks gel

Only £30 or so in it, so unless it drops dramatically in the next 28 days I'll leave it (think this may be a bridge too far for JL at this point!)

strapped, up until the last 2 weeks I've been firmly in your camp with the thought that there will be nothing to match a Panasonic Plasma. I even flirted with a VT65 to replace the GT50, but the whole fan 'issue' and also your ongoing problems were enough in the end to make me walk away as this has been going on since my GT30 went wrong in August 2012.

The 55F8000, from what I have read, and also what oldboy has posted on here, seems to be the best bet at this time. I could wait for OLED or 4K, but how long will they take to reach a sensible price?

I know that you really don't want to go down the LED route, but given Panasonic's exit from production, coupled with the Samsung 8500 now being out of stock just about everywhere then what are your options? Wait for a 2014 Samsung Plasma?

I really hope the F8000 works out for me, as I have had enough of TV's to last a lifetime!

Let us know what your next move will be, and best of luck
