Nice one, happy days, I will have to get someone out to look at mine.

Yep, definitely get someone do yours too, it is really good! The guy had instructions and a little box with the foam black strips in, and then stuck two on each casing after removing the fans. It seems Panasonic are doing everyone's this way. It took about 30 mins to do. Job done! :)

surely the foam dampens the fan vibrations on the back panel rather than stopping their speed?

Yep, that is right by my understanding.

Yep, John Lewis have a list of companies they can use, they then choose this one, and this company sent the problem to Panasonic, who then sent them the fix. Defintely get it done.

Good news all round I think.....

Can't (shouldn't) say too much yet, but I've got JL to price match Total Digital (even though they say they can't..???!!!) @ £1579.00 which was the weekend special price

Just awaiting contact from the management at JL to confirm the 'swap' and take some money from me...

Can't be difficult, can it?

That's no good! It is easy to do as well. All you do is take the back off and put the black strips in and then put the back on. How long did they want it for?

I didn't ask, I just don't want the tv to go away, not only is there all the boxing up, its that from previous experience I would prefer to keep an eye on it, and it sounds a simple job.

Yes, I've decided on the 55F8000, although I was 'flirting' with a VT65 for a while..!

£200 is what I need to part with, which the more observant amoungst you will notice isn't as much as I thought it was going to cost me!

I think you have made the right decision Mr W and I know exactly why you flirted with the VT65 as I had the same thoughts when I purchased my 55F8000 but I'm so glad I didn't get another Panny plasma.

£200 seems like a good deal to me and a small price to pay to get a resolution and start again, any idea when you will take delivery of the 55F8000 yet?

Hmmm, at the rate JL are going it will be the 55G8000!!!

I've now hit the 'pay full price because it's a web purchase, and then when you are happy we will refund the difference'

Joy, I pay them today (if they get their act together), take delivery in 7/10 days, and then wait a further 5 days for a refund...

It's enough to drive anyone mad

That is not good. I wonder if the Richer Sounds guy on the forums could help? His details are here:

Try emailing this guy, he gets things sorted really well.

As a quick update on my VT65's "repair," the engineer called yesterday, effectively to advise that nothing has been done.

Well, he's changed the fans for identical fans, but Panasonic advised that the red and cyan blobs affecting the centre and left of the screen are within tolerance. So, my TV's being returned on Monday in precisely the same condition.

Incidentally, the engineer was able to photograph the problem, which has nothing to do with settings, but this obviously held no sway with Panasonic. The blobs remain visible to the same extent when colour is set to zero.

I'm unsure of what to do now. I can push John Lewis for a refund, but what alternative TV could I go for? There are no Samsung F8500s available from reliable retailers; and I have almost no confidence that a replacement Panasonic will be any better.

I also can't bring myself to buy an LED TV. Most of my viewing is done off-axis due to living room shape and furniture arrangement.

TVs really are expensive trash these days.
