Great thread Vlad - it was fun reading through all the posts.

I would nominate the Peachtree 125SE, which I used to have before I upgraded to the 220SE. I still think the 125SE was amazing value for the money.

How about a 'future speaker classics' thread Vlad? Or does that already exist and I haven't been able to see it?

Cheers all :)

None so far Miles. But I have a feeling the first nominate will be the KEF LS50. But who else? *smile*

You bet...i can not imagine an other speaker which would be more qualified.

So long as you ditched the awful Thomas Kinkade landscape.

What, you'd like to have a stereo image / soundstage that's only 5 foot wide?

And you'd like to have a trip hazard every time you got up to put on a CD?

All I care about are the (shower) curtains.

The only future classics will be the ones that you can actually repair / service and keep working e.g. valve amps, amps with discrete components or replaceable modules. I dread to think what will happen when a Devialet goes pop in 10+ years time? I suppose you could use it as a wall hung mirror.

If your Devialet pops in future you just let change or upgrade the broken module like a motherboard in your computer. No need to mess around.Thats how it is done today.

The Devialet does look more modular than most although there is still the main board to consider. One can only hope that changing a module is economically viable. There is an interesting thread on the Devialet forum where a D200 is stripped down, then the whole lots reassembled after anodizing the case ... doesn't look like a job for the fainthearted.

Looks like Devialet has a lot of proprietary stuff. Reminds me of vintage 80s and early 90s Bang & Olufsen kit. Piles and piles of it thrown away because the electronics cannot be serviced, especially chips, eproms, specific censors, mechanisms. Only thing that can be fixed/replaced is OEM compoenents like Philips CD mechanisms etc.

Hi

For me a future classic might actually be the Rega Elicit (the curved shape one).

It has an incredible design, and although it wasn't sold in buckets like the Brio-R, I see it being hunted by collectors because of its great sound and DESIGN.

I think to be a classic, the amp has to have a "singular" and unique design, or some special characteristic, like good and characteristic sound of that model for example. I don't think that technology dependent amplifiers with dacs or whatever will be sought after, because technology evolves very rapidly (like in computers), but in case of the Devialet that would be the exception because it is reference, and it will always sound good.

Best regards
