The power amps would blow up regularly, the original Bob Stuart design and the later models by Stan Curtis.
I did own an early glass topped pre-amp though I am struggling to remember what power amplifier.
It may well have been my Phase Linear 400
I had mine, sans cabinet, hidden in a cupboard driving a pair of BC1s.
My hard rock loving mates laughed when they saw my Spendors, they all had JBLs or similar. I played them something that started with just a voice (Bad Company, I'm sure), then Simon Kirk's drums came in and left them with their chins on the floor.
273 watts a channel will do that........*yahoo*

I guess a year+ should have been set by the OP.

Yep, I have one of those too. I don't use it much anymore because it runs high into Class A and gets hot enough to cook an egg. I can barley touch the metal knobs after 90min or so. It has a separate power suply box with two tordial transformers. This is definatley a classic in my book and I'll never sell mine. When it stops working I'll use it as a unique paper wieght. Here is a link for you: http://www.alchemisthifi.info/ranges/kraken/alchemist_kraken_apd6_integr...

Agreed. Devialet will be the amp to beat for the foreseeable future, mainly because of the ADH topology, the upgradable platform, and SAM.

I think the future will bring more disposeble items that actual times have.
In 50/60 years if it is broken (not we, but ower sons) they will have to throw it away and get a new one.
I think i'm not that far off...
+1. That's why I think straight-forward analogue designs are likely to have greater classic status.matt49 said:Hi-FiOutlaw said:What i fear most about new gismos, like NAS, AV receivers and amps like the Devialet, is the future softwear support, can you imagine having system support for the Devialet in 30 years...?

That's a fair point, though the Devialet can be used like a normal DAC/amp, without any software updates/upgrading.

Hey Vald, not to change the subject, but those speakers reminded me of this. Watch the video sometime. I found it interesting how obsessed some audiophiles become and how much money they are willing to spend on their gear.

I would nominate the Peachtree 125SE, which I used to have before I upgraded to the 220SE. I still think the 125SE was amazing value for the money.
How about a 'future speaker classics' thread Vlad? Or does that already exist and I haven't been able to see it?
Cheers all
