If you like Iggy Pop a must have is his latest cd 'post pop depression'
A collaboration with Queens of the stone age and drummer from artic monkeys.
Fantastic but not folk

Yeah I've heard a few tracks and was going to put in the album the other day. I also heard a new single, which I think was better than the singles from his recent album. But I can't find it anywhere. I think he must have a new record coming soon. His radio show has instantly jumped into joint top spot of best radio show along with Huey. Iggy has amazing stories and real wisdom about music. It is gold. I'm just gutted I've only just started listening.

Another artist people may be interestedin is Sufjan Stevens... pretty wacky at times, but some really nice music too.

His Christmas albums are a real antidote to the usual commercial seasonal fair.

Didn't realise he's done Christmas albums. I'll be putting them on. After having lost it for a year I found my Carrie and Lowell cd of his a month back and had it on in the car on a long journey to top of Scotland. It's jumped into one of my favourite albums of all time. I think it's a transcendental album. Pretty awesome.

Another acoustic artist with a slightly unusual voice and style is Laura Gibson. I have a couple of her albums La Grand and Empire Builder

I have the La Grande CD, I really like it. I must check out the other album on Spotify.

I'll recommend a brilliant duo, Aly Bain & Phil Cunningham

Pedro, Gibson's album If you come to meet me is very good too.

Beautiful musicianship on the Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham albums.

If you like the Fiddle try Jack McNeill and Charlie Heys, Heys on the Fiddle and McNeill on acoustic guitar plus vocals.

"I am a bird now" is heart wrenchingly beautiful....it took me a while to take it in and understand the angst and confusion of Anthony Hegarty.

Just been listening to bjork tonight chatting on radio6. Asked who she really likes musically she mentioned a few, including Anohni (was Anthony hegarty). Need to go through her back catalogue now. Agreed, I am a bird now amazing album and song.

I’m listening to Lisa Hannigan and it’s a nice feel and a great singer, but I’m getting bored after a while as the songwriting and melodies isn’t hugely talented for me.

Critics would probably agree its good for a commercial reason, of all the albums that regularly get voted best of at present, tend often to be female vocal albums like Jane weaver etc. This is because they sell, but some of them aren’t very original music wise with the way the music is constructed and the melody. Basically there is no consistent decent tunes to the music accross the album. You could compare two tracks of two great female singers, one written really well and the other average, and it’s blindingly obvious. Compare say the melody ‘mary’ On big thief’s new album or ‘in paradise’ on Juanita steins album, to the tracks on that Lisa Hannigan album. An artist or group has to both write the music really well, it be well above average, and also sing it well, for me to consider it talented. Otherwise it’s just play it once and forget it stuff.

When since has Lisa Hannigan been commercial?!

I really don't know why you contribute to this forum as unless anyone shares your opinion, all you do is deride and insult them.

We could all be negative about others taste and opinions, I certainly could with yours, but in my opinion it wouldn't really make it a good site to visit would it.

This thread was intended for members to introduce new artists that others may not be aware of, not to pull artists/albums apart.

No you are entitled to your opinion but a forum doesn’t necessarily mean everyone has to agree with each other, which is often a function of a forum, and certainly is the case with hi Fi on this one, so I see no difference with music tastes. Tbh the more people say what they do and don’t like, the easier it is to work out whether you go with people who make recommendations and check their stuff out. If my honesty is too blunt for you, and you take it personally, you don’t have to read my posts.

If you want to be negative at my tastes, have at it - I certainly won’t take it personally and it will surely get some good honest debate and opinion going, not just from me but others no doubt.

If it’s just a case to state the artist but not say anything bad , with the good, it’s not doing anything for the plethora of tastes on here. The posting of music tastes shouldn’t be some kind of self serving way of just posting what you like and everything is subject to criticism on forums.

Since when is saying you think some music is boring is insulting someone? Also how can you be saying what you are when you were thanking for me for some recommendations on here in earlier posts?

the thread is intended for what you think is good or not, as with all music recommendations.

The purpose of this particular thread is to share music with forum members who have a like for Folk/Acoustic music and a suggestion isn't liked, that's fine, but there's no need to come out with rediculus statements like the artist "hugely lacks talent"... no one else thus far has seen fit to react the way in which you have and the only reason I read your post is that it was a contribution to a thread I started.

Yes, I would always thank someone for a suggestion if I liked it, but if not, I would just say it's not to my taste thanks, not start ripping it apart.

I've been a member on this forum for nearly 8 years now and I've never had a cross word to exchange with anyone until now... I find your manner unnessesarily provocative and most unwelcome, which is a shame as you undoubtedly have extensive knowledge and are very informative at times.
