I find that your approach in the last couple of threads is game playing as you try to make things personal, particularly your comments on the other thread where I couldn’t have known your predicament, which you used against me. Whereas a forum shouldn’t be personal. I’ve not tried to make it personal at all.

If it’s my opinion that an artist lacks talent then I’m entitled to say that, just as much as I’m entitled to say it’s great. Equally someone could say Im provoking them if I say I like the music, which they don’t????? That would be stupid. It’s far from ridiculous, since if you believe that then frankly that’s your problem, not mine. I’m just interested in open and honest discussion and if I can’t say both when required, then I can’t be honest. offence is largely taken and not given, especially on matters of opinion. How on earth are you entitled to get upety about me making a point of opinion. You either accept it or you don’t, clearly you don’t so you make it personal, particularly when you don’t ever know me, so you have no right of passage on that score. The whole point of forums is for people to say what they like and don’t like sharing knowledge and opinion, short of offending anyone and how on earth can my comments about your taste be considered offence or provocative as a personal opinion. It would be exactly the same as someone saying they don’t like a brand I like. What exactly do you think I’m provoking you for for goodness sake. Please get real.

Here's one for you. It isn't folk but it is acoustic, well recorded and expertly played.

One of my favourite artist. Not sure you've heard the album. The artist I'm talking about is Esperanza Spalding and it's her debut album "Junjo" from 2006.

No you are entitled to your opinion but a forum doesn’t necessarily mean everyone has to agree with each other, which is often a function of a forum, and certainly is the case with hi Fi on this one, so I see no difference with music tastes. Tbh the more people say what they do and don’t like, the easier it is to work out whether you go with people who make recommendations and check their stuff out. If my honesty is too blunt for you, and you take it personally, you don’t have to read my posts.

If you want to be negative at my tastes, have at it - I certainly won’t take it personally and it will surely get some good honest debate and opinion going, not just from me but others no doubt.

If it’s just a case to state the artist but not say anything bad , with the good, it’s not doing anything for the plethora of tastes on here. The posting of music tastes shouldn’t be some kind of self serving way of just posting what you like and everything is subject to criticism on forums.

Since when is saying you think some music is boring is insulting someone? Also how can you be saying what you are when you were thanking for me for some recommendations on here in earlier posts?

the thread is intended for what you think is good or not, as with all music recommendations.

The purpose of this particular thread is to share music with forum members who have a like for Folk/Acoustic music and a suggestion isn't liked, that's fine, but there's no need to come out with rediculus statements like the artist "hugely lacks talent"... no one else thus far has seen fit to react the way in which you have and the only reason I read your post is that it was a contribution to a thread I started.

Yes, I would always thank someone for a suggestion if I liked it, but if not, I would just say it's not to my taste thanks, not start ripping it apart.

I've been a member on this forum for nearly 8 years now and I've never had a cross word to exchange with anyone until now... I find your manner unnessesarily provocative and most unwelcome, which is a shame as you undoubtedly have extensive knowledge and are very informative at times.

Thank you Pedro, I most definitely will and thanks to everyone's contribution so far.

One I came across the other day was a lady called Tia Blake; I believe she only had the one album which came out in the 70's, "Folk Songs and Ballads"

Sadly she passed away a couple of years ago

Another act that I saw a number of years ago, also supporting Richard Thompson, was Erin McKeown.

I thought she was wonderful, so much so that I've bought all her albums over the years. You are probably aware of her, but I would heartily recommend her 2003 album Grand as a good starting point.

.

Just going through the posts again and Dib's if you like Erin, you may like Ingrid Michaelson, or Allie Moss

Superb acoustic Jazz Insider, thank you.

Glad you like it. She's very versatile and each of her albums is different and wonderful in its own way. Super talent.

If you fancy it, go through the catalogue in chronological order it's fascinating to see how she grows as an artist.

Guys a fantastic LP Maybe not exactly folk but please give this one a go.

Mumford and sons Johannesburg

My favourite song Si tu veux But the whole lot is good

Tell me.what you think

Never been a fan of the Mumfords, not enough to buy a CD that is, but do like the odd track. However, I think without them, we may not have had bands like Bears Den, Dry the River and Matthew and the Atlas.

Hay Mac...not listened too much of James Yorkston as yet but I've got a couple of his on my saved albums (Spotify)...he came up on my discover tab.....what an excellent algorithm Spotify has got going with that.

Quite enjoying "this is the kit". Moonshine freeze at the moment.

Love This is the Kit! should be getting that album for Christmas.

Another excellent acoustic singer/songwriter is Alexi Murdoch.

Sorry for our earlier chat Macspur. I think on reflection you are right and its probably best to be careful not to be seen to be commenting adversly on others music tastes on a forum. That wasnt my intention. I did try and make my comments balanced though. Best wishes.

I personally couldn't see too much wrong with your comments. You never criticised Mac, just the musician. And youre entitled to your opinion on that I'd say.

Apology accepted, thank you quest... probably 6 of 1 and half a dozen of the other if you know what I mean.

I'm passionate about the music and artists I like and for those I don't like, I try to appreciate the hard work that's gone into creating that album that I know others will like, so, with the exception of gangster rap lol!, I try not to be too negative about others choice in music.

That's just the way I am.

@Radiorog... you won't get any more arguement from me on the matter.

Life's too short.

Just listening to Laura Veirs, Troubled by the Fire... have you tried her Quest?

Thanks for comments, I’m goimg away for Xmas up to Yorkshire and staying in a cottage near York. I’m trying to work out a Xmas song playlist on tidal that is tasteful. Xmas music can be a bit too overtop sometimes, a bit cheery or overly crooney, but have picked some good stuff I think. Lol.

I don't have Tidal, but would love to know what's on the play list if possible... I'm a real sucker for Festive music, not the usual stuff that's on every radio station, although I still like to hear Slade and Wizard if only for nostalgic reasons.

I do have three lists on Spotify Acoustic Christmas, Eclectic Christmas and festive Folk
