In the main, and after years of consideration, my balanced view is that electronic music is mainly s##t.

You have to live through the time I think. The nurture part of the human experience. My music tastes were formed when I was around 20 in 1994 and before in late 80s. The acid house scene and then britpop and then all the electronic trance and techno stuff of the 90s, as well as alternative stuff. A lot of this would be considered electronic. In the noughties as I got older it was a mixmash of everything but really liking still electronic stuff which but a bit more relaxed eg royksopp.

I like stuff from the 70s and 80s and before but my main consideration is it has to hit melodies I like and that gets the brain come going. I don’t think you can classify a music genre as being mainly cr-p. It’s just where you look. I’d be a bold man to say classical or jazz is mainly cr-p. It’s not. As with all music it’s just where you look. It’s also pertinent to point out that there is commonality with all music types, it’s just about picking melodies you like. Mozart would probably have been proud of Michael Jackson or ABBA if he had lived in their time.

... through all that electronic dross of the 70s. As a baby of the early 60s, and much older siblings, I was exposed to all genres of the decades: Electronic is fake. By that I mean it doesn't have the musical authenticity of proper instruments.

I don't mind if a band or a group use moogs, synthesizers blah, blah, blah... as a part of a composition that makes a musical 'whole'. But when they rely totally on electronic gizmos it had/has no appeal whatsoever. Give me real guitars, drums/percussion and pianos anyday.

Kettel - Ibb and Obb ( Original soundtrack )

https://open.spotify.com/album/727kXExYDKMWSzYwJH7Dg6

When I first heard this I had no idea what Ibb and Obb was but the music gave me the feeling of seamlessly ( gapless ) going through different surreal worlds of noises and spaces combined in a beautiful patchwork of musical sounds.

When I googled Ibb and Obb I found out that is exactly what it is, such is the skill of the composer and I say composer on the same level as a good classical composer!

i defo be checking this out!

update : it’s not in the same league as kettle and secedes album ‘when can’. I thought it was computer game music and checking it out, it is. There are too many arpegiated synths that go no where in musical terms imho. All the tracks are quite similar. 4/10 for me.

For me the essential parts of music is its melody, so it makes no difference if it’s achieved by rubbing sticks together, making a new instrument from the forest, playing an oboe, or a synthesiser. Listening to stuff like nils frahm is electronic music, but some of it is almost classical.

One word that describes this is ether, but in the metaphysical meaning, not material chemistry.

Plus I'm from the arcade games generation, I love this type of music.

I agree it is not a patch on the incredible combination of Kettel and Secede but nothing else ever will be unless they collaborate again.

I would give it 6.5 to 7/10 because it fills my whole room with seamless enveloping sound that makes me feel like a child in a magical cave of sounds, the incredible bass and spacious sound make the whole system dissapear leaving a 3D soundscape of interacting noises that make me feel happy.

listen to it in the dark and it is truly hypnotic and joyous event , push everything out of your mind and let the music in , you can almost touch the soaring weaving notes with your fingers ! *i-m_so_happy*

I’m liking the ambient album by secede called tryshasla, as part of the kettel and secede duo. Haven’t made my mind up if ok, good, or very good yet as still listening to it. But it’s got some good variation in the chill out genre.

These albums often take some time to get and you have to persist with them before you can have an opinion.

I didn’t listen to much of the link, but try Bocuma. He’s based in Ireland, and apart from producing his own albums, also produces his own soundtracks for games - Void Raiders and Story Of A Cube are on Spotify. A bit more “8 bit” rather than Tomb Raider.

Ever heard the Yazoo albums? Or Everything but the Girl’s ‘Temperamental’ or ‘Walking Wounded’?

To be honest all these tracks just bore me to death. Sounds like typical Euro trash.

Classic beats anyone?

Man Parrish- Hip Hop, Be Bop (Don't Stop)

The Smurf - Tyrone Brunson

Herbie Hancock- Rockit

Electronic doesn't have the authenticity of proper instruments??

So your average 90's house didn't have drums/piano and occasionally guitar?

No proper drums/piano like in early 90's hardcore?

Electronic is fake?

Wow!! We must clearly live in different dimensions because I remember dancing/Djing to plenty of EDM that had all of the above. You quite clearly have no idea of what you're preeching despite your feeble claims of being "exposed to all genres of the decades"

Would love to have a ounce of whatever you're smoking bud!!
