Still think Gel's best upgrade would be to wall mount the TV above the fireplace. At least then it would be central. If that is too high you can get wall brackets that you can pull out and lower/angle down.

Gel has the money to get this professionally done and the rest of his kit could stay on the stand in the corner of the room.

Since he says the fire is only there to stop the draught from the chimney, and thus presumably isn't used, why not just remove the fire, cover the opening in the surround, and park the TV stand there?

Or just put the stand in front of the marble(?) hearth: if the electric fire isn't used it won't be problem, and neither will moving the stand a foot or so into the room if it makes the TV more central between the front speakers.

The fire place comes out quite a bit with the flooring, so can't fit the stand on there.

I've got QED silver anniversary XT speaker cable, would this be good enough in this super system?

What about sticking the Arcam 850 in my current setup?
See Cno, I told ya! That's the only message he would get from your post! :)

IMO. Gel is at least thinking about his options and then discussing them....and TBF to both myself and (particularly) Ellis, it has given us the oportunity to spell out the only way this should even be considered.

Personally, I am happy to (quietly and patiently) continue repeating the message until it I feel happy that Gel is on board with it.

Hence a custom stand of correct height and width so that it goes over the fireplace base. Maybe I didn't explain that bit better a few pages back

Ah right I get you. Just one problem with the Sky HD box, the cable is only small.

That's easy to extend buy cable off ebay or have sky come and do it for about £50 which on grander scheme things.

None of these things are deal breakers just objections your making that are minor and easily fixed. How often do you think sky engineers move cables and boxes in people's homes everyday.

Great excuse to get skyq and have it done for free

You wouldn't need a stand if you wall mounted the TV above the fireplace. Your existing stand could still hold the rest of your kit in the corner. Would just mean buying some longer cables but would be a lot cheaper than a new amp/speakers and would give a better improvement as you would be able to create a proper front sound stage which you haven't got now.

You're not averse to buying cables gel, are you? You already have more HDMI cables than you need!
Huh? If I need more cables I will buy them otherwise not.

I don't think the wall will take the weight of the TV.

I'm sure it will, even if it's a plasterboard. You get special fixings.

The wall takes the weight of the roof and everything in the loft - another 20kg is nothing. If you went into the loft would the house fall down - of course not. What happens if you wanted to put up shelves for books - its exactly the same

You just make sure you fit the tv wall bracket into the stud work and not the plasterboard only

That is much easier than it sounds using either a tap and pilot hole drill method.

Or much quicker with less holes use a joist detector which work brilliantly. You cna better ones than shown there but you dont really need it for one job.

My cousin has the 65VT65 up on the wall in a modern construction house timber and plasterboard which weighs 35kilos - its been up years.

Slight problem though, I don't tend to have much say on these sort of things. Although originally I was told I can but now I can't. To be honest I am not really fussed about it. I think my system and sound is great already.
