With the recent debates going on about turning your equipment off standby, does it effect performance? for eg according to the russ andrews advice guide he claimed that turning your kit off altogether can effect its ability of performance as he claimed it was best to leave everything on standby as it still leaves sum current flowing through it & by turning power off altogether when you turn it back on everythings got to warm up again which they say could take up to 24hours & that you wouldnt be getting the full performance from your kit until that time has elapsed? mmmmm? I have turned everything off & when ive put it back on again i cant tell of any drop in performance? is this just another myth? anybody have any views??

Sounds to me like an old wives tale! But I guess these people want to melt the ice caps and run up huge power bills.Just do what you think is best - I turn my PC off at night (on the PSU and the Mains) and I can't say that I'm seeing any ill effects from doing that but I admit thats a slightly different kettle of fish to high spec AV equipmrnt!

Naims NAC52 is quite well know for sounding very under par after an outage. Bit like Amy W. ;-)

I think even in standby the video and audio circuits are switched off anyway, so his theory doesn't make sense about warm up times. Maybe he's talking about valves which do have heaters?
Or he could mean strain on a system as powering on and off uses the most current, fuses generally blow this way, but the power supply unit should protect the main circuits from this.
