I have recently noticed Home Cinema Choice have stopped updating their website as of about a year ago, just wanted to know why if anybody knows why?

I stopped reading their mag years ago and barely frequent their website either. Just found out they have stopped doing it. Oh dear...

I wonder how WhatHifi are doing today with their mag? Their website is clearly still working right.

If the magazine is no more why would they update the website?

I didn’t realise it was no longer around. A real shame as I did enjoy that magazine (and even featured in the readers section once).

I guess readership was down (have to confess I have not read it for a while hence the lack of knowledge over its demise) so it was no longer able to continue?

I featured in Home Cinema Choice too! Yes, that is probably what happened. I doubt covid helped them either.

I would imagine there are a number of factors.

- YouTube (etc): with so many people completing reviews online now it makes waiting and paying for a monthly mag redundant.

- Products: there are simply not as many products to review relating to Home Cinema as there used to be. Just take 4K players as an example.

- Soundbars: back in the day some of my friends (who are not as 'into' Hifi/Home cinema as me) would still have opted for a 5.1 set up. Now they are happy to settle for the convenience of a soundbar.

I did use their review of my Pioneer VSA-LX805 as a deciding factor in purchasing the amp. Without that review I probably would’ve not bought it, which would’ve been a shame.

I would say that nowadays, a lot of AV is purchased purely on price rather than reviews. Too many people trying to put together an AV system on the cheap, scouting around for deals - they'd find a deal, then ask on a forum if it's any good.

I heard that HiFi Choice would be incorporating the AV reviews.

Brilliant, I wondered why on HCC subscription page they were now linking HiFi Choice instead of HCC. I will probably buy one and see what it is like. Cheers!

I don’t think people can afford not to buy AV on the cheap, it is a luxurious purchase anyway. Personally I would’ve not bought my recent purchases if they hadn’t been real bargains, because I couldn’t have afforded too. I will still be paying them off for months as it is at least.

Tried 3 issues when HCC finished (I still had some of the HCC subscription left) and its useless, some of the stuff they come up with would do a flat earther proud.
I used to buy the mag in the old days as it was great and honest in its reviews and articles, however these days it is just total bilge.

Thanks Bill. I did look at their website and wasn’t too impressed. They haven’t seem to have incorporated the AV stuff as yet though. When I start seeing the AV reviews on their website I will have a look at the mag then.

Whether they actually get round to doing that is another matter - I wouldn't think their regular HFC readers would be too keen on seeing projectors and AV amps in there...
