Digital Coax or not?

Found a cable in amongst loads of odds and ends I've got stored away.

I've been advised that it's probably a composite video lead, but that it's suitable for using as a digital coax lead. Is it?

I thought there was something to do with digital coax having to have a 75ohm (is that right?) rating?

I'm thinking of using it to carry my audio from my DVD to my brand new Onkyo 875. If I don't need to by a new lead that's great and an added bonus

; if I do, then so be it - no loss

I've actually got two - so can the other be used as a sub lead?

I know these may be silly questions, but all money saved is a good thing right?

Yes, if it's a video cable it'll be fine to carry digital audio from player to receiver. Probably is a 75ohm cable anyway if it's designed for video.

And yes, the other cable will be fine for your subwoofer.

Am I going to lose much quality by not using dedicated Coax and Sub leads?

Not really - a digital interconnect is basically a standard phono lead, albeit conforming to the 75ohm requirement of such cables, and as we seem to suspect yours is a video cable, it's probably on the money there.

And the sub lead? That's just a standard phono interconnect, but usually longer than the ones you'd use to connect CD player to amp.

I can hopefully set up my Onkyo 875 and Quad L-ite system over the weekend - can't wait - it's christmas all over again!
