Hi again all,

With apologies because I don't want to start a virtual punch up.

I have to get one of these for my sbt, is there huge difference between something like this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Custom-Length-Coaxial-75-Ohm-SPDIF-RCA-RCA-Leads-cables-Word-Clock-Digital-/160836562759?_trksid=p2045573.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D27%26meid%3D3545592133377911503%26pid%3D100033%26prg%3D1011%26rk%3D2%26sd%3D230855211438%26

or QED Performance which will retail for £40 on ebay.

I do not like spending vast amounts on cables and last recomendation was over £60.

I do use van damme speaker cable which is why I selected the first item.

Any thoughts welcome as always,

Thanks.

I use Ecosse "The producer" which is a good compromise between "cheap as chips" and a king's ransom: http://www.stoneaudio.co.uk/?product=ecosse+the+producer

It comes in a 0.8m length, but if you hunt around, you can get it longer if needed.

I once compared it to a very expensive Atlas Mavros, and I couldn't be certain I could hear much difference.

Cheers Cno,

Thanks for the advice, will see if I can get longer length made up.

Have seen from other posts you not been at your best, hope recovery is going well, I always appreciate your advice, my wallet disagrees but hey.....................

Thanks again.

If you need much longer, go with your own suggestion.

I recommended it because it's well made and I use it (0.8m), so have some experience. Here are the prices for other lengths:

Thank you for your kind sentiment.

Hi Shanka,

I have tried a couple of coax and just took a punt on Wireworld Starlight 6 from ebay £45 0.5metre.

My system is quite revealing I would say and although I have only just had a taste of using new cable and am away next week on work my first impressions are that it was a noticable change over my chord codac and mark grant cables.

I would back up the WHF write up and certainly seemed worth the extra even though I was very sceptical.

Will report more after further listening but will be a week or so.

Chap I got from tried many cables and preferred it to chord signature and an atlas one. He now has clear audio one £200 and posted review if interested.

Hi,

Interested in your findings, for my budget a cable at that price is very high, I am looking between £4o -£60 and happy to go s/h.

I will be using between SBT and a DAC, probably Mdac,

Thanks for the reply

Hi Shanka,

Frustratingly not had time for any sensible listening and cable swapping comparisons.

I'll try and grab an hour tonight if possible and re-inforce hopefully my initial findings. And of course report back!

Cheers

Buy from local cable makers, instead of large companies (Chord, Wireworld, etc). They are usually more approprioately priced and the quality of their cables is much better. Performance-wise they equate to cables costing 3-4x as much, since no money is spent on advertisement.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay.

I have been really busy and its my sons birthday this weekend.

Been frantically listening last 2 evenings when I can snatch time.

I have a better feeling of the W/W Starlight 6 cable and also how this compares to my old chord silver plus codac coax now.

I do believe that coax cables sound a bit different and can hear this more now my system is better setup than before.

It is not the same level of difference from changing Phono interconnects but is worthwhile in trying a few cables if you can.

So my thoughts on the W/W cable is that it has a nice delicate and clean sound with better and more extended highs than chord cable. It seems some tracks I preferred with chord however and others with W/W. W/W does acoustics, guitar very well and slightly better definition. playing Extreme waiting for the punchline track Midnight Express which has very fast frantic acoustic guitar there is a discernable improvement and I was picking up more with W/W. PerhapsW/W is faster or thiner than the chord??? Very difficult to describe.

The Chord cable has slightly better dynamics and sounds a bit more punching to me. Bit more musical whereas the W/W is bit more audiophile perhap. I thought the chord was a little fuller sounding and lower register was more obvious and suiting rock music better.

Unfortunately not one cable best at everything!!!

I think it depends how you like music to sound and how balanced your system is.

Obviously don't expect big changes but If the W/W seems to suit your preferences you might just be impressed with it.

Thats the best I can describe, hope it helps a bit!

All the best

Ambrose
