Dear Andrew.

It was with great interest and slight horror on reading a reply you made several days ago on the subject, 'DAC - Do i need one ? ' You made a point that with an AVR, analogue inputs might still go through a process of, ADC - processing - DAC. I address this to you for another reason, we are both proud owners of the Onkyo 875 and wondered if the same applies to this particular AVR?

This might well explain why my new DAC Magic very disappointingly shows no clear advantage over the Onkyo digital inputs. I have emailed Onkyo but no reply as yet.

Any further thoughts would be much appreciated

Paul

No problem, just select analogue pass-through on your 875, I think Andrew was referring to a receiver which doesn't have this function.

Thanks for the quick reply, just to clarify, is that actioned by choosing 'Pure Audio' or 'Direct' as a listening mode ? Or via the other menus?

I believe the only difference between Pure Audio and Direct is that Direct leaves the display panel on. All other circuits that can be turned off that aren't needed for the analogue signal I believe are on both.ÿ
