So, I busted up a CRT monitor. A fairly large one,32 inch flat screen, and inside of the Cathode Ray Projector I found a strange smooth metal, that is magnetic. I was curious to what kind of material this may be. I can't seem to find anything online to tell me what it may be, but I feel like it might be important so I really would like to know.

It is very smooth, seems slate like, but it is magnetic. Maybe a compound of metals? Maybe not, I have no idea. Does anyone know what this might be?

Oh, and to make it more clear, it is a BLACK satin metal that is very smooth and shatters with a hammer pretty easy.
The main reason I'm curious is that I really like to hold on to solid elements (if it is an element and not a compound). So if this is an element I'd love to know.
