Hi All,

Just got my new iPod Classic 160gb (very exciting) and downloaded the new version of iTunes.

I've noticed there's a feature to convert songs in your library to WAV. Does this work? If the file is already compressed how can it convert to a non-compressed file?

Opinions valued as always!

Example the freeware Audio editing application Audacity cannot use most proprietary formats such as AAC / WMA[/quote]

AAC is not proprietary in the same way as WMA and is an international standard. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Audio_Coding has some information. However ALE/ALAC is proprietary and it rather confuses matters that Apple stick it in the same .m4a wrapper that they use for AAC.

Not exactly on topic (sorry), but could someone expand on the diference between proprietary and, it seems, not so proprietary...?
