Hi
I posted a question the other week and I am re posting as i may not have explained myself.
Am a OAP with 100's of CD's & 1000s of mp3 music files on a USB stick not much tech knowledge at all.
Looking for a small (for a tiny living room) system which will play both with the USB playback on a random/Shuffle
Not looking for a expensive receiver or Wifi, just a small Hifi (speakers inc) system which will play CD's and USB stick plugged into it.
Maybe up to $600 in price line.
That is all, I see ones advertised on Amazon but is there a decent one that will perform both simply?
Any recommendations will be appreciated
regards

Random shuffle may not be available on these devices, you would have to check.
There are more up market devices like Marantz M-CR 612 but these are more network players with CD. They don't have USB playback or speakers.

I have something for you wink wink nudge nudge 🙂 !

Go over to Amazon, there are four systems I can recommend, all within your budget - see below;

System 1 - purchase with PreSonus Active Speakers - total costs £229 + £157 = £386

The No. 2 system looks good for the money. Plus it comes with banana speaker plugs (much better than the spring loaded speaker connections) and a remote control.

Good, simple starter system.

Ps. The Presonus speakers have aux in, you can listen to music from your mobile or DAP player. Also it has additional Jack input, so there's room for another device with cable adapter.

Apologies for side tracking, I couldn't help thinking about the spring mechanism on the Presonus. I use to have the 3.5 driver version. The spring connectors should be absolutely fine, if you only use bare speaker wires and don't try to prod them with customised wires with banana plugs, like I did.
I thought some banana plugs might work with the spring connectors and so, I went ahead and fitted the bare cables with 2mm thin pin banana plugs.

These fitted nicely. One day, I noticed one of the pins wasn't rooted firmly in the slot, so I pushed it in further but it was still loose, I rotated the pin and to my shock and horror, the little spring shot out into the atmosphere, only God knows where it landed, never to be found.

I looked at it and I thought to myself, I can get rid of the spring connectors and replace them with proper bind posts. Hey kids if your name isn't @Gray I wouldn't recommend trying this at home!

Fast forward, don't want to bore you, Here's some photos. Oh yeah, puka!

Looks good.

I had AR LR8 speakers and a NAD 3020A Amp which had the spring loaded terminals which I found to be awful if you used a cable a bit thicker than doorbell wire. I used an adapter, but can’t post a picture to show it.
