best way to clean piano black

It's not something I've ever given any time to consider. I don't sit close enough to see the dust, never mind any minute 'swirl marks'.

Any duster will do, but a microfibre cloth should be soft enough.

I wonder how many people on here are so precious about a much larger investment, ie their car?

I do, car never seen a car wash, hand washed only be myself.

I also have Piano Black speakers and use a lint free cloth to wipe any dust off.

On the Monitor Audio website they recommend "Mer" car polish or T-cut finished off with an anti-static duster, to clean their range of piano black finished speakers.

And a very good polish it is too.

T-cut and other fine cut compounds being 'harsh', polishes giving a 'smoother' presentation and a waxed finish giving 'higher definition', that sort of thing?

If you have ever owned the original Xbox slim you would know how easy they are to scratch. Even brush your finger across it and it will get micro scratches. Granted the REL is not plastic but its that easy to scratch. Would not say its misuse as all it dose it sit there with dust onit. When I wipe down even using Micro cloth it still leaves some micro scratches, so this is why I would like to slap some polish on it to give it a protective layer. The layer is to reduce the fish of adding more scratches. As to the people who use polish on there cars its not just to give there paintwork that extra shine !

I was about to get there, as in

- Cleaning up the sound

- Giving a more polished performance

- Adds sparkle to the treble

- Smoother bass

What's there not to like.

Just used a Autoglym HD wax kit that came free with a magazine subscription. Was saving it for when I finally get a car worthy of its' use but thought I would give it a go to see if the factory piano black finish on my speakers could be improved upon. In conclusion my speakers look better than new but have become too detailed.

A common problem.

I find that hanging a deodoriser from the speaker terminals, the red obviously, usually solves this problem. The ones that look like pine trees are the best, make sure that it does not dangle down too far, as making contact with the surface of your shelf will nulify the effect.

Just a quick update, came home today to find they were now sounding a little dull. I can only assume this is part of the burning in process. Gave them another quick polish and buff with the microfiber cloth. Wow, now it's perfect - the sax playing on jazz floor is just incredibly live.

Thanks Dave, will try that hopefully it will keep them sounding pine fresh for months.
